Trying for a boy

Hi, we’re going to start trying for our third this month. Obviously a healthy child regardless of gender is the main thing, but I would like another boy deep down. If I use an ovulation test

...didn’t mean to press enter.
If I use anovulsukn test and it shows positive, should we have sex that day or wait 12ish hours to make it as close to ovulation as possible? Also not sure as I ovulated more than once last time to get twins!

It won’t make any difference.

FundayMorning · 02/01/2018 12:56

Do it as soon as you get the smiley on the ovulation stick then stop and don't do it again.

You could also try sex from behind - the angle sends the sperm further towards the cervix and the males swim quicker anyway so have a better shot at finding the egg first.

FundayMorning · 02/01/2018 12:57

I think it does make a difference.

Twinmumum · 02/01/2018 12:57

Sorry for the spelling! an advert keeps popping up over the text box! Grin I thought that might be the case. Oh well, no harm in trying I guess!

Interesting! Thank you! Just out of interest why do you stop after one go and not try again?

You can read about the Shettles method, it says that if you have sex on the day of ovulation there’s more chance of male sperm reaching the egg.

Nancydru · 02/01/2018 13:07

What do you have currently op? Boys or girls?

Growuphelen · 02/01/2018 13:11

OP said another boy and she has twins, so presume two boys

Twinmumum · 02/01/2018 13:12

I’ve got boy/girl twins. I want to try and get it as close to ovulation as possible, but just not sure when that is in terms of the ovulation sticks. I don’t know whether it would be better to hold off for the day or whether by doing that I’d miss my chance of a bfp altogether!

OP posts:
Growuphelen · 02/01/2018 13:14

I was wrong then !

Twickerhun · 02/01/2018 13:15

There is no science behind any theory here.

FundayMorning · 02/01/2018 13:29

There is science behind it. Just not scientific proof that it works iyswim. There's certainly scientific theory.

And lots and lots of anecdotal evidence.

Twinmumum · 02/01/2018 13:32

I get what you mean Smile I’ll be giving it a go anyway!

OP posts:
Twickerhun · 02/01/2018 13:47

If the dubiously scientific theory had any merit the majority of ivf babies would be boys. They aren’t.

Brownbear84 · 02/01/2018 13:51

We have two girls and also trying for a boy, sort of got caught in the moment though and dtd the day before ovulation then day of ovulation. Also been taking evening primrose oil I read somewhere makes the cervix more favourable for male sperm xx

Oysterbabe · 02/01/2018 14:46

Shettles has been debunked as nonsense and based on incorrect assumptions.
If it worked DD should have been a boy.

DailyMaileatmyshit · 02/01/2018 16:21

Yes, based on this 'science' DS should have been a girl!

headintheproverbial · 02/01/2018 18:21

You know that you've a high chance of more fraternal twins, right?

Tinselistacky · 02/01/2018 18:25

I conceived girls a year apart from only dtd on day 23 of a 28 day cycle. Assume for a boy would need to get busy well before ovulation!

Twinmumum · 04/01/2018 00:03

I’m going to try the evening primrose oil brownbear! I read that too. Good luck! x

Twinmumum · 04/01/2018 00:06

Apparently the odds range from a 1 in 4 to 1 in 12 chance 😱😂 hoping for just the 1 this time for many reasons, but if we are blessed with twins again then I’ll count myself lucky :)

Brownbear84 · 04/01/2018 16:24

Anything is worth a try I think it can't harm can it xx

Bubblegum89 · 04/01/2018 17:42

There’s absolutely no scientific evidence that the shettles method works. It is all coincidence and biologically speaking, you can’t determine the gender of your baby any more than holding a wedding band on a loop of hair over your stomach can tell you what the gender is. I mean, it won’t harm you to try it out but gender assignment is totally random and shettles has been debunked many times so I wouldn’t rely on it as gospel.

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2018 17:47

I agree that there is no scientific evidence, but anecdotally I can tell you that I have three boys & I know without doubt that all of them were conceived on the day of ovulation.
