Mirena Coil - Problems

Hey, I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice or have been in a similar situation and how they best dealt with it. I have had the mirena coil for nearly nine years, the current one I have in is three years old. Over the last few years I have struggled a lot with stomach and back pain, swelling of my stomach to the point I look pregnant. I also suffer with sensetive breasts and my mood can change drastically from loving everyone to wanting to be on my own and cry. I do have low iron but take iron tablets for this, around the time I would usually be due on my period the smell and thought of drinking coffee really turns my stomach when usually I drink it daily. I am getting period pains every two weeks as well. I work full time, am always on my feet and eat well and cannot seem to lose weight like I'd like to. This is really affecting everything in my life, it's making me unhappy and I don't want that obviously. My stomach feels like it is constantly full of fluid and it causes me a lot of pain. It goes down at certain times of the month but I know it's not normal, I shouldn't feel like this or have so much trouble with my stomach or losing weight. I am only 32 and don't want to do anything drastic but I need this dealt with, any advice or similar stories and how you dealt with it would be massively appreciated. Thank you. Steph.

Hi Steph, I can't help with the stomach issues I'm afraid but I did experience some horrid side effects that I think must have been caused by mirena. I developed awful anxiety for the first time in my life and my breasts were very sensitive and developed hard painful nodules - so bad in fact that I was referred to the breast clinic twice by GP while I had it in. I'm not sure if you'd consider having mirena removed but I would say that all of my breast pain has stopped since having mirena removed and my anxiety is also much much better. Good luck with whatever you decide. Have you been to your GP?

Hello Thanks for your message.

The more I think about things the more I start to realise it has to be the coil causing the problems. Sinusitis, bones hurting, sore boobs, back paining abdomen pains high and low moods, cravings! I’m going to make a appointment and get it removed. I havnt had a proper pariod in 9years and never had to worry about contraception so now I’ll have these worries once I get it removed but anything will be better than feeling like I do now.
I’m glad all your problems have been removed since having yours out.
