I think it's generally between 5 and 10 days.

Donbean · 23/04/2007 13:59

is it day 14 in your cycle that you are most likely to concieve???
sorry to jump in...

goingfor3 · 23/04/2007 14:00

It's usually 14 days before your next period is due to arrive but it can vary, for me it's about 11 days.

I am TTC and am fairly sure that I ovulate early - around day 8/9. Lots of advice suggests that if this were the case, I should test positive before day 28. But surely if teh gap between fertilisation and implantation is 1o rather than 5 dyas, it makes a difference?

I am no expert but as goingfor3 said: it is generally considered to be between 5 and 10 days, although some say it can be as late as 12 days between fertilisation and implantation. However testing is a different issue again, because the rate at which the hcg increases after implantation varies slightly between women too. So even if you knew exactly when a fertilised egg implanted - it would not tell you when you would definitely get a positive test.

I take it if you ovulate earier that you have shorter cycles like goingfor3 and I have??? or do you have a long luteal phase. In terms of testing, it is best to test in terms of when af is due, however some women do not get positive pregnancy tests til much later. I hth?

Donbean - if you have a standard 28day cycle then day 14 is a good starting point but it could be that you ovulate slightly earlier or later than this.

If anyone is interested I just got a BFP on CD24 -which proves my point that if I ovulated that early I would test positive well bwfore CD 28........

Vic - have you just got a bfp now then??

I ovulate early and have short cycles, but never got early positives - had to wait til 3 days after af due to get a positive with my first pg. My mum and sister did not get positive tests until they were 3 and 4 months pg respectively!!!!

congrats!

I am embarrassed to admit that I started testing on about CD 20 - used first response and got BFN, used Boots digital on CD22 and got BFN, CD 24 Clear Blue digital and Boots ordinary BFP.

Congratulations, good news, and great to get it so early.

Thanks. I had a miscarriage in December and am utterly terrified about having another one (missed last time, with no bleeding before I discovered at an 8 week scan). so, although tis a little early for many symptoms, am paranoidI don't feel ill enough
