Yet another early miscarriage

mummyjl15 · 23/12/2017 20:44

Not sure why I’m writing this but I wanted to see what others have done after a recurrent miscarriage.
I had a miscarriage at 6.5 weeks in the summer and have just had another one at 4.5 weeks. I’m 31 and my husband and I have been TTC our second child since February and I’ve been on Pregnacare conception tablets since then, I don’t smoke, don’t drink (hand probably 2 glasses of alcohol since we started trying), I’m slim and healthy.
I’m feeling pretty angry and upset that I’ve had a second miscarriage and if I see anyone with a baby I just can’t cope at all and break down into tears. My first pregnancy was so easy from conception to delivery so I just wasn’t prepared for any problems with conception and miscarriage.
Anyone else had multiple miscarriages in a row? How do you cope? How long did it take to conceive for you?

I don't have any answers or experience but just wanted to say I'm so sorry. X

WelshMammy123 · 23/12/2017 22:04

So sorry for your loss.

I haven't had multiple miscarriages but I did have a MMC and then a tfmr last year. We ended up going for some tests privately as it had taken us over 3 years to conceive our dd (with one mc along the way) ahead of the losses last year so felt that all wasn't as it should be. Turns out that my progesterone was low and that I have factor v Leiden which is an issue with my blood clotting. After using progesterone supplements I fell pregnant again and was then prescribed clexane and low dose aspirin. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant.

I think on the nhs they wait until you've experienced 3 losses in a row but might be worth a chat with your gp to see if there is anything they can do. Chances are all is fine and it's just extremely bad luck but no harm in having a chat about it.

I hope all works out x

Hey OP. I'm so sorry you're going through a rough time. My DH makes do had three early mcs. You cope because you have to :(

After the third we were referred to the recurrent mc clinic. It was going to take 3 months to see them and our hit record was pretty good by then. Luckily my private health insurance (Benenden) agreed to send me to a consultant. He was about to test us for some stuff (he felt though we had an issue with implantation which sounds similar to yourself) and we got pregnant again for the 4th time in 6 months.

Straight away he put me on baby aspirin and lethyroxine (btw get your thyroid checked-anything over 2.5 is too high! The GP will say 'oh that's normal' but always ask for the Tsh Number-Fertility doctors have a very different view to GPs!!) and also progesterone (which has shown to have bugger all effect on maintaining pregnancy for my case but he felt couldn't hurt) - He also told me to be as positive as possible. Anyway, it worked-Or something worked! Whether we were just VERY unlucky the times before and got duff eggs/sperm or whether one of the drugs worked we'll never know.

You'll get through it I know. Make sure your miscarriages are logged with your GP and start raising a stink now in case (and I hope it bloody doesn't) you have another. If you do the silver lining is you'll be fast tracked to the recurrent clinic. They got me 'passed over' back to them and they have been incredible this pregnancy. They gave me reassurance scans every 3 weeks up to 20 weeks and just looked after me all the way through.

If you would like to PM me please feel free ❤️

Apparently auto type took over, that was meant to be 'my DH and I had' at the start there!!

Iggi999 · 23/12/2017 23:37

OP have you been in the miscarriage section on here? You’ll find it if you go into topics and then into Body and Soul. The MC section is in there. Lots more advice and experience Smile
For myself I had four in a row after dc1, then had treatment for high levels of natural killer cells, then dc2 in my early forties.
Please don’t give up hope.

jinglebells123 · 23/12/2017 23:45

I'm sorry you are going though this OP.

When I was TTC our dd I had 2 early miscarriages both at the 5/6 week mark. I then had a healthy pregnancy followed by another early miscarriage at the same point. I did get some basic tests which showed no obvious cause. We've decided not to have a second - the early mc's are only a small factor in this.

When I was considering a second there were some suggestions around vitamins etc to take and also baby aspirin that might help.

Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for all of your messages. Christmas is well and truly going to suck this year! It’s just been one of those years for my family to be honest!
Going to try again in the new year and try to keep positive. I really hope it doesn’t happen again but I suppose if it does I’ll be able to get some medical help and find out what’s causing them.

I am so sorey for you losses :( it's truly awful.
I have a dd then i suffered two mcs in a row.
The first at 5 weeks in May. I then conceived again my first cycle after the mc, only to go onto have a second one. That was a mmc which was found at my 12 week scan, passing baby at 12+5 in Sep. The baby had died at 9+5.
I was heartbroken. I decided to ttc again straight away and fell pregnant my first proper cycle after. I'm now 9+6 and had a scan on the 22nd to check on baby. All was well :)

The only thing that got me through them was focusing on ttc again. I really hope you have your little rainbow soon. Take care xxx

BlueeSpottyTiger · 24/12/2017 09:59

Sorry*

mummyjl15 · 29/12/2017 09:39

Well it turns out having being sure I’d had a miscarriage it might all be ok! Just took a test as the bleeding stopped 2 days ago and it said pregnant 2-3 weeks!! My test last week before I started bleeding said 1-2 weeks. I’ve started another thread if anyone is interested in seeing responses to early pregnancy bleeding.

Great news OP! I'm crossing everything for you - just be as positive as you can!!!

Fia256 · 29/12/2017 13:43

So sorry for your loss OP.

I know the feeling well. I have two DC age 6 and 4 who’s pregnancies were text book. In the last 18 months I have lost 4. 2 were what would be classed as chemical at around 4 weeks just after getting bfp, one at 7 and one at 20. It’s been a rough road but I’ve had all the tests and scans and it seems it’s just bad luck! I’m now 4 weeks pregnant again and praying this one sticks. It’s difficult to think positive though I admit.

It took me only 2-3 months the first few times to conceive again, then 4 months for this pregnancy. The chemicals were both 2 months after the last and I think my body hadn’t recovered enough, but then I know a lot of people who conceive straight away again and all is well.

Please look after yourself, and don’t be afraid to feel all the feelings your feeling. I found it really tough whenever friends would announce their pregnancies too. Hope you get your rainbow baby very soon xx

Fia256 · 29/12/2017 13:44

Didn’t see your update! That’s great!

surreygirl1987 · 29/12/2017 14:14

Oh good!! Keep us all updated... rooting for You!

TheIntrovertedMum · 29/12/2017 15:31

In my experience 75mg of aspirin daily would be the next go to before being sent off for tests from the GP.

mummyjl15 · 29/12/2017 16:19

Thanks @TheIntrovertedMum I’ve read this so I’ll get some in the morning

After an easy and healthy first pregnancy, I had a mc at 12w and another at 5w in the space of 6 months. As we speak, DD2 (conceived 6 months after mc2) is feeding herself to sleep at my breast. It can happen, don't despair.

mummyjl15 · 29/12/2017 21:34

I’ve got a scan booked in for next Friday when I’ll be 6+4wks so we shall see. The bleeding has completely stopped and from explaining my symptoms etc to the EPU they seem to think it might just be implantation bleeding. The bleeding I’ve had has been very different and much lighter than my miscarriage in the summer. Also with my mc the bleeding lasted 6.5weeks whereas this only lasted 5 days. Keeping positive but trying not to get too excited. Fingers crossed there’s a healthy baby developing in there! 🤞🏻

Iggi999 · 30/12/2017 00:06

Fingers crossed for you. I have had early bleeding with my mcs but also with a dc’s pg so you just can’t tell. Before scans my GP was always happy to do blood tests to see if HCG levels rising over two days. Is that an option?

mummyjl15 · 30/12/2017 08:24

@Iggi999 I imagine they will probably scan me first then do a blood test to check my hcg levels like last time. I hate having the blood tests done as I have tiny veins and it usually multiple nurses to try to take blood from me with different needles! I had 15 blood tests with my last mc! 😱

Hi, our stories sound near identical. I had DS-no problems, then two early MS then fell pregnant with DD I also had early bleeding with her-just for a day when I wiped-I would have been 7 weeks I think. I just curled up and cried thinking it was happening again, turns out it wasn’t and went on to have DD with no complications.
I have my fingers crossed for you xxx

mummyjl15 · 30/12/2017 09:17

Thanks for sharing @Loverunandwine I’m hoping for good news next week. I was convinced it was a miscarriage but I’ve actually started developing some pregnancy symptoms again so maybe all is ok :)

Hi @mummyjl I’ve just read the thread and have my fingers crossed for you. I found out Wednesday I’m pregnant, 1-2 weeks which is correct from time I ovulated, but yesterday I had brown/pink spotting and today I have brown/reddish spotting/bleeding. Bit confused what is going ok, didn’t have any bleeding in my first pregnancy, do you mind me asking what your bleeding was like this time?

Kit1411 · 30/12/2017 09:45

I don’t have any pain or cramping.

mummyjl15 · 30/12/2017 13:52

Hi @Kit1411 sorry to hear you’ve been spotting but it’s not always a bad thing. I know lots of women have spotting when the egg implants and brown/pink spotting is good!
When I had a miscarriage in the summer I was 6+5wks when I started spotting pink blood. I had no pain at all and had all my pregnancy symptoms. The bleeding got heavier and the next day I did lose some large clots followed by grey tissue so I knew I’d had a miscarriage. The bleeding lasted almost 7 weeks and once the bleeding had stopped I had a negative pregnancy test 2 days later.
This time I started spotting an hour after taking the pregnancy test (at 4+4wks) to confirm I was pregnant so I feared the worst and assumed it was another miscarriage.
The bleeding this time was red and I did pass a few tiny clots and 2-3 big clots on the 2nd and 3rd day of bleeding. The bleeding was lighter than my usual heavy periods and mainly when I wiped. It lasted 5 days then once it had stopped I took a test 2 days later to confirm the miscarriage was complete to find the test now said 2-3weeks. I don’t know if I will still go on to have a miscarriage but I’ve read lots of posts from women who did lose clots in early pregnancy and went on to have a healthy pregnancy. Hoping for positive news for you though but if you’re at all concerned ring your nearest Early Pregnancy Unit for advice :)
