Me and the other half are currently trying to conceive. Been trying since May, so 8 months and no joy. Last month I was 5 days late so I'd got my hopes up but didn't Dare test, then the monthly arrived. Sigh.
We are going to start ovulation testing this month. Monthly finished yesterday. How do I go about doing this, do I test every day? I've read up online slightly but my heads a dizzy place and I'm getting all confused.

I used the cheapie strips. Tested from day 10 at 2pm and 10pm and always caught the positive. Got pregnant with ds on the third month.

I have used clear blur ovulation tester thing. and before that just the strips. Basically you will need to start keeping track of your cycles. Most women will ovulate right in the middle of their cycle so if the day your period starts is day 1 and your cycle is normally 28days then you will ovulate around day 14. Some people vary however (my cycle is 24days long and I ovulate on day 12/13)

You want to start testing a couple of days before you are due to ovulate and then every day afterwards until you see confirmation you have ovulated so then you will know what day. You generally want to DTD a day or two before you ovulate. It may take a couple of months before you know your own cycle.

As I said I used the CB machine and just the fact that I was now recording everything resulted in a successful pregnancy after 3 months off the pill.

The machine is quite expensive as are the tests you buy from the shops. I believe that you can get simpler strips online for much much less. so perhaps use those and save the more expensive ones for closer to when you ovulate for a more accurate reading. Most of the strips will tell you when various hormones are raising too which means you will have a better indicator of ovulation.

Quick tip, pay very close attention to the instructions as I realised that I was holding the strip in the stream for two long and that meant I never got a 'fertile day' reading. It was on Mums net that I discovered my problem and it then worked perfectly.

Good luck!

BTW by the time you actually ovulate it is usually too late. that is why it is important to record everything so that you will know in advance when you will O. Some tests will inform you when you are at 'peak fertility' and so should DTD. this is usually 2 days or so before you ovulate.

I suggest you buy a pack of the kits and read the instructions and have a go next cycle. you will learn a lot about how it all works from doing that.

Thank you for all the advice. It's a very confusing place to be isn't it.

How long is your cycle Greggers? With a cycle of 35 days or more, you wouldn't be ovulating in the middle of it, but rather about 12-14 days before you expect your next period (which of course ends up being the middle of the cycle anyhow if you have a shorter cycle.

Greggers2017 · 22/12/2017 07:19

My cycle is 29 days like clockwork. So still the middle?

Yes, although with a 29 day cycle you could be ovulating as early as CD12 or as late as CD19 depending on your luteal phase length.

What kind of tests were you planning on using? Are you on around CD3 or 4 at the moment? With your cycle length, if you start testing on day 8 or so - a couple of times per day with cheap strips - and keep going you should catch the surge.

Do you observe other fertility signs like your temperature or cervical fluid?

Greggers2017 · 24/12/2017 20:54

I do observe some signs of ovulation yes, I notice the fluid change etc. Does this happen before or when you actually ovulate?
