Does anyone know how long one should wait beteween stopping breasting DS1 and trying for another baby?

I don't think it matters I think it is down to your choice and your body starting to be ready

xoz · 22/07/2004 20:44

Yes I agree with gothicmama. It's up to you. I fell pg with dd2 when I was still feeding dd1 (only once a day at that stage, was about to wean her entirely) You can start ttc when you feel ready.

Valentine - I am still bf dd twice a day (mixed feeding - she is on formular for her two feeds during the day) and I would like to conceive asap. She is 5 and a half months now by my AF haven't reappeared as yet. Best of luck to you and fingers crossed for us both!

bundle · 28/07/2004 11:38

stopped feeding dd1 just before she was 2 (only one feed though in the mornings) and her little sister was born when she was 2 yr 10 mths...(my periods had returned when dd1 was 9 mths)

I'm still BFing DD (once a day) and have just found out I'm pg. Have asked for advice on here about stopping but everyone says it's fine to continue. (In fact I think my supply has increased!)

LucieB · 29/07/2004 10:45

Seabird - how old is your dd?

Eulalia · 29/07/2004 19:43

You don't need to wait. In fact you can carry on breastfeeding and get pregnant. And like me carry on breastfeeding right through the pregnancy until the baby is born (and thereafter!)

mummytosteven · 29/07/2004 19:50

you don't need to wait - though from a practical point of view you may want to wait to try to conceive until after you have had your first period to avoid difficulties in dating any pregnancy (you can fall pregnant just before your first period, as your first ovulation will be 2 weeks before your first period)

In terms of Calcium rebound, it's ideal to have a 6 month rest. At least, that's what I read. Breastfeeding is a risk reduction factor for osteoporosiis. But U need something like a 6 month break for the body to restore Calcium-in-bone reserves to levels that turn out to be higher than before pregnancy (or so I read!)

Seabird · 29/07/2004 20:51

LucieB - my DD is 8mo

Seabird · 29/07/2004 20:54

oh and I had 2 AFs in between the two pregnancies

Gem13 · 29/07/2004 20:58

Don't think it matters. I was pregnant while still feeding twice a day but now I feel like I've been pregnant or bfing for years (nearly 3 years now!)

Hi LucieB
Hope you get to read this....
We're also TTC whilst BF (if you remember!) and I wanted to pass this info onto you....I've just been on a free website called FertilityFriend.com (on the recommendation of a fellow MNetter - can't remember who I'm afraid but thank you!). I'm going to start charting my temperature and cervical fluid so we can figure out if I'm about to get my first ovulation..... Fingers crossed!
HTH,
mit x
