Vitamin C

I've been told to take vitamin c with bioflavonoids by my GP because I keep catching viruses and getting infections. I've had my blood tested and everything is fine.
I work with children so she thinks I should take some.

Do I need to take them up to ovulation and then stop them? Because I know it can cause miscarriage etc.

Thanks x

There’s actually no evidence base for the notion it causes miscarriage. No work has been done on it. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t, but there no actual evidence either way. No one has looked. I’d just take a regular dose if you take it. Megadosing on vitamins is rarely a good idea.

I'm not sure there's much in the way of evidence that it actually prevents colds either, although there is a possibility that it shortens their duration: www.cochrane.org/CD000980/ARI_vitamin-c-for-preventing-and-treating-the-common-cold

Basically, a regular dose is probably going to be pretty harmless and hey, it may help or at least have a placebo effect, but you could probably also just eat more oranges. Like Anatidae says avoid megadoses, they are really not needed. But I'm pretty sure that if vitamin C affected pregnancy, we would know already. I really don't think it will affect ttc.
