DP cycling to work everyday

Is this causing a problem with his fertility?

He really enjoys it and he hasn't really got another way to get to work at the moment. Read on several websites etc that its bad for sperm production.

I know of one family where this was an issue (sperm production, and the relevant DH cycled to work every day).

On the other hand, I know lots of men who cycle daily, most of whom are fathers (including my own DH). So it clearly isn't usually a problem.

How long have you been ttc, and how far is he cycling?

SpongeCake23 · 10/12/2017 22:20

@SheepyFun

Been TTC for 5 months, now coming into month 6. He cycles about 40 mins there and 40 mins back.
I don't know how else he'd get to work as I have to use the car and his workplace is in an awkward place for any public transport Confused

My DH cycles to work too. We’re only on month 2 ttc but have decided that during fertile window and a few days before he will get train instead (luckily that’s an option for us) but I’m not sure if that is enough to make a difference or not

Fwiw my husband cycles 40-50 minutes to work every day and it hasn't affected us conceiving.

FutureFairyCrayon · 11/12/2017 11:55

My partner does a 40 min cycle commute daily, and has managed to impregnate me 4x, so I wouldn't worry too much.

SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 13:44

Thanks all.

He said if he gets a sperm count done and his are low or the wrong shape, he'll look into another form of commuting temporarily.

We're looking at moving in a few months time, so we may be closer to a train station by then anyway. And he could cycle two days a week instead.

My DH is a cycling addict and got me pg Grin

FoxgloveStar · 14/12/2017 10:26

It is unlikely that the cycling is affecting anything but I think your partner's response that if he has a low count then he'll change is very reasonable.

@HellaBella0 it's lovely he's prepared to do that for you but I wouldn't stop him cycling for those days unless he's stopping completely. Men take 3 months to make sperm so if he stops cycling for those few days, the sperm he ejaculated during those days will have been made three months prior. I wouldn't worry about stopping anything unless you've had tests that say he has fertility problems. Just relax and enjoy trying before it gets all serious!!
