Low circulation and low bbt?

Hi all,

I have been slightly concerned about very low bbt (esp preovulation) for a while now. Pre ovulation my bbt is almost always below 36 degees. This morning it was 35.56. From what I read on the internet that is Low! I do, however, get a post ovulation spike and get well into the 36s then so I thought maybe it was okay...

However I have read recently about low circulation being an issue when ttc. I have always felt the cold more than most peiple seem to; I ALWAYS have cold hands and feet no matter the season, and every time I shake hands with anyone they always comment how cold my hands feel!

I used to give blood but had to stop as I could never get much out and it took ages... apparently i have low blood pressure. My period blood can be a bit clotty too which I have also read is a sign of bad circulation.

So - has anyone had any experience with this when ttc? And what have they done to 'fix' it if it is a problem? I have made an appointment for acupuncture to see if that helps and I have read about something to with castor oil which I might give a go... any other thoughts? Am I silly to think this might have an impact on ttc? Hard to tell - according to the internet EVERYTHING has an impact!

I also can't give blood due to them not bring able to get enough blood out! I am also prone to pins and needles, even in the middle of my back if I'm sitting wrongly for a while! My fingernails apparently look like those you'd find on a corpse, according to a paramedic, and I have to wear socks in bed all year round or my feet get incredibly cold.

My bbt is also low - always low 36s although the lowest it's ever been is 35.5! However, it was only that low when I temped orally. How do you temp? I do it vaginally now and the lowest I've had in 15 months is 36.2. I successfully conceived last cycle so it is possible, although ended in mc.

@soozc thanks for the reply. So sorry to hear about the mc. You sound just like me though I've never been compared to a corpse.. yet! I do temp orally. Very interesting to vaginally may give higher temps. Might try it... next month though I guess as mid cycle now.
I'm thinking of getting tested for thyroid issues as I've read that this can be linked up with such problems?

Thank you. Do give bbt vaginally a go. It wasn't until you asked this question that I looked back at FF and saw the lower temp trend only when temping orally! Interesting to look back :)

I'd agree and say get tested for thyroid issues, as they can affect ttc success. I've had day 3 and 21 bloods which tested for thyroid function and seemed fine.

The paramedic who made the corpse issue did so as I was lying on the floor suffering a severe allergic reaction...it's stuck with me since although I've yet to see a corpse to compare them to!

Good luck with your ttc journey and I'll be interested to know how temping vaginally works out for you next cycle, if that's not too weird a thing to say...

My BBT is very low as well, pre ovulation it’s normally around 35.9 but it regularly dips to 35.5-35.6.

I’ve recently had a lot of blood (and other) tests and everything came back as normal so I’m no longer worrying about it.

If you temp later in the day then your temperature should be a bit higher and I think that this would be the temperature that doctors would worry about if it was too low.

If you’re worrying about it though of course get yourself checked out! Just wanted to offer a little reassurance 😊

For circulation you could try acupuncture as that helps. My doctor recommended it to me and it really helped. Good luck

Thanks! I have my first acupuncture session on Thursday so am curious to see how that goes! My temp was only 35.45 this morning which is surely ridiculous, but @foreverretro you make a good point about time of day... does that really make a difference? I wake up at 6am so test then. Keen for first acupuncture session anyway... and @SoozC that sounds awful!! 😯

@surreygirl1987 I take mine around 6-6:30am as well. The way to be sure is to take it in the evening when you get home - if it’s still low then, get yourself checked out.

When I first started temping I used to get up and walk to the bathroom before taking my temperature because I didn’t realise the significance, but now I take it before I move at all and even that has made 0.5 degree difference. I used to regularly get temperatures above 37 but now even my post ovulation BBT hasn’t gone above 36.45.

I’m so glad I found this post. I also have very low bbt, as low as 34.84! But that was just once. I usually stay between 35 - 36, and at times I go above 36 after ovulation, never 37. Although I do temp orally, so I’m sure there will be a difference when I try temping vaginally. I have recently found out that I have PCOS, though I’m not sure that and low temps are linked. Did you girls ever find out what might’ve been causing your low temps?
