Irregular light AF

Hi all
Well I've not done a post since telling you all I went to Foresight....
Well, I have a problem!
I came off the pill in December, with a plan to take 4 months off, before TTC. This has all worked so far, but...
I had a period in Jan after 35 days, then Feb was 30 days, then March was 28 but noticeably lighter than the previous two months... now I'm at 30 days having only spotted on day 24, 26, 28 & 30. No real sign of AF...
I've done a PG test, and its negative, and I feel 'normal'....
Any ideas what could be going on with my body?

Thanks
Sallypoo

Sallypoo

Irregular periods are often caused by hormonal imbalances and it is quite possible to have periods without actually ovulating.

Spotting between periods also ought to be investigated to ascertain the cause - its often nothing serious.

Would suggest you visit your GP to discuss this with this person.

A blood test can be done to see what your hormone levels are like. This should be done early in the cycle - a day 3 or day 10 test are standard tests done to measure LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) levels. Your GP needs to COMPARE both these levels against one another, not just look at them separately. Comparison MUST be done. It is only when they are compared that any imbalance is seen. LH and FSH are important; these two control the initial process of ovulation. If these two are out of sync then ovulation becomes a problem.

Thanks Attila

I had most of my prenatal checks and smear done back in February.... I've never had irregular periods before, but they were always light on the pill, but I'd understood that was normal.

Jan & Feb's AFs were what I remember them being like back at school, but March was lighter than when I was on the pill and this month's AF still hasn't shown up.

I'll give it until monday, and then try and make an appointment with my GP for next week.

Many thanks
Sallypoo

Hi there

Having read up on PSOS I don't think it's that - I don't have enough of the symptoms. Well none other that light irregular periods...

I wonder if it's just my periods still settling down after coming off the pill - What do you think? I was on the pill for 17 years! [SHOCK]

The pill leaves your system very quickly after a person stops taking it so I don't think that is responsible. It can though mask symptoms of any underlying hormonal problem.

Would be interested to see what the GP has to say about it.
