Safe to be pregnant again?

Hi everyone. Me and my partner had a beautiful girl 5 months ago and are wondering if it would be safe to try again? We love our girl and love being parents, we have a stable home and my partner has a good job so we are secure and can afford it. I would just like to know if there are any health issues with trying again so soon? Thank you.

Not unless you have preexisting ones yourself?

Many people have less than 2 yr gaps between babies. It's not unusual at all.

What lamp said.

Ive heard of people who have got pregnant within 2 months after birth and had a healthy pregnancy. Id say just make sure youre eating well and on top health wise and go for it if thats what you want to do xx

It's fine, unless you have some other medical condition you haven't mentioned?

For example I had a haemorrhage after I had my DD and would have been a bit concerned getting pregnant soon after her birth as I was still anaemic for several months. Also my friends who had caesareans were told they shouldn't get pregnant again for at least a year.

Did you have a C-section? I think it can be beneficial to wait a year to be properly healed if so but otherwise just crack on.

When we left hospital with our DD we were given quite a lecture by our midwife about waiting a year to try again so the body can recover.

There are increased risks associated with a short gap (or a very long one):

My sister in law fainted a lot and she got preg when her youngest was 8m old as her iron etc was depleted. So I would say make sure you are taking supplements and pre conception vitamins if this is your plan.

If you had a vaginal delivery, were healthy in pregnancy (no anemia, gestational diabetes etc) + have got into shape so you're already very fit, I'd probably go for it. Otherwise, I'd focus on good nutrition and exercise to prepare for another pregnancy and baby.
