Anyone used ovulation predictor kits and do they work?

I want to start trying for a third baby soon. ALthough my periods are relatively regular in interval, I have PCOS and seem to only ovulate when I lose weight. I am not sure what the magic weight is though and would like to know if I am ovulating now (this cycle) so that we can start trying to conceive.

How do these kits work? Are they worth the money? Is one better than another?

ANy tips welcome!

They worked for me! Although I did have a good idea of when I was ovulating (just needed to know exactly when as I had to drive down to see my DP quickly - I was working away at the time). I think I used the first response ones. Fortunately for us it worked 2 month in, or it would have really quite expensive. If you want to use them my advice would be to try and be really pedantic about writing down when your periods are to try and cut the cost!

I use them, tried to stay away this month but coundn't! I use the clearblue digital ones which are expensive but have a clear result. I have been trying for five months and my ovualtion varies so it's useful for me.

If you have PCOS usage of these kits is a definate no no.

These kits measure LH levels. Many PCOSers have an excess of this hormone to start with so if you were to use one of these kits the kit would just read this excess level.

If your periods are still irregular it is likely that you are not ovulating regularly if at all.

My counsel for what its worth is to seek treatment from a gynae and be monitored by such a person. Your GP should refer you as you have a previous diagnosis.

www.verity-pcos.org.uk is a good site to read and has lots of information.

I used them .. and quite succesfully

they are rather costly though

it took a couple of packs first cycle to identify that I was ovulating late in cycle .. 2 more cycles proved ovulation at same stage .. one more time with clomid and voila ..DD

funnypeculiar · 14/04/2007 21:03

Did with ds (pregnant that cycle, but had only been trying for 2 months) , but otoh, didn't with dd and pregnant first cycle...

goingfor3 · 14/04/2007 21:05

I also didn't use them when I fell pregnant the first three tmes and it happened straight away then!

ALthough I have PCOS, I did not have problems conceiving my first two. I did see a specialist intitially, but we soon found that my weight was related to fertility. If I lose weight, I conceive fine. IN fact, first cycle with my second son.

Anyway, I have lost some weight again, but not sure if I have started ovulating or not. My cycles are actually not irregular at all - just not sure whether my ovulation has resarted.

I know I could just start trying, but was trying to avoid hope/dissapointment if I am not ovulating again yet.
