AF has arrived. I've had a textbook cycle this month, I ovulated on day 14 according to the opk I took and I've started bleeding on day 28!

Once again, we had sex on ovulation day and every other day thereafter. We'd also had it a couple of days before. I've been taking seven seas trying for a baby vitamins for three months too. My diet could be healthier and I could do with losing some weight. Also my partner has been taking zinc everyday.

I know I'm only going into month 5 of TTC this time around, but because it's #1 I'm scared I am infertile after all.

You need to be having sex before ovulation, not after. Egg is only good for 12-24 hours after ovulation

5 months is just over the boundary of you are equally likely to be pregnant or not pregnant yet. Please don't get it into your head that something is wrong. In all likelihood it isn't. To think that after 5 months is reasonably insulting to people who actually do suffer from infertility... (like myself. TTC 20 months 1 cp, just diagnosed PCOS).

See your GP if you still haven't conceived in a year. 80% of people without any issues will concieve in a year. I know it feels like forever... but 5 months is about the time between infertility appointments on the NHS. So get used to waiting.

@physicskate sorry, I didn't mean to offend. That wasn't my intention. I suppose I'm just getting impatient as I thought it would happen sooner and most of my friends have conceived in the first month or two x

I don't think you were trying to offend it's just understandably a very sensitive subject and lots of people are struggling. It is really hard each month whether it be month 3 or 13 it is heartbreaking so sorry AF has arrived. I agree though better to be DTd a few days before ovulation as well as during and just after. Good luck on your journey x

Totally with you! AF appeared today for me too so on to cycle 6 TTC#1 for me. Am well aware that many people have tried for longer but it's all relative and I'm sure they worried at this stage too. At 36, I'm now close to when I should check with GP which feels like a significant milestone looming. Fingers crossed for next cycle for everyone xxx

I think sometimes we get caught up with ovulation date. What opk are you using? You need to dtd before your peak and usually for three days after. I found CB opks worked best for me. I think a lot of the time we were actually missing our 'window' as we were relying too much on the cheap opks. I'd say invest in the expensive ones for a few months just to make sure you know where your peak is.

physicskate · 13/10/2017 06:58

I’m not offended (much) so don’t worry about that!! I know how sad and horrible this process can be and it’s not a contest. No one deserves the heartbreak..

I was just trying to give you a bit of perspective. Adjusting expectations might help you get through this a bit better.

I hope it happens soon for you!

I recently lost a stone and a half and as soon as I reached target weight I got pregnant. My GP said he sees this all the time...even carrying a little extra weight will often slow down fertility

Polly99 · 13/10/2017 07:12

Just have sex every 2-3 days throughout your cycle. That should ensure your partners sperm is better quality and mean you hit your fertile time. Sex in the 5 (max) days before ovulation can get you pregnant, sex afterwards won't. How old are you?

SpongeCake23 · 13/10/2017 16:19

@Polly99 I'm 28. Thanks, I'll follow your advice x

@OuchLegoHurts I'm going to try and lose weight, I just find it very difficult that's all.

Does anyone recommend any other pre conception vitamins other than the ones I'm taking?

Folic acid and vitamin d are all you need and what is recommend by the NHS. Honestly I know how hard it is at this point but you are so early on in your journey it might be worth looking into some mindful meditation to help you calm and relax at key points during your cycle. You also ideally need to be having lots of sex before ovulation. Not on or after. Every 2-3 days throughout your cycle is enough. Good luck.
