Hycosy. WORST pain I've ever endured.

I had it this morning. It was inconclusive. Dye passed through my right side perfectly fine, straight away. Small trickle through the left... It was SO painful that she couldn't finish putting all the dye in. Therefore I won't know if the left side was clear or could have been cleared. obvs was blocked somewhat or it would have flown just as quick as the right. :( I have adhesion on left ovary...so who knows what going on with that tube. The pain was so intense I almost passed out. I had a strong pain suppository prior to the test and still felt immense pain. So much so my entire body started shaking, pins and needles everywhere! Has anyone else had this??? THIS BAD? I was prepared for strong period pain. BUT this was intense. They say I have you had to do it AGAIN to see if the dye will pass through my left tube. I can't even think about booking this again. Who has had this and experienced this kind of pain?

Oh my love that's awful! I had a HSG which is pretty similar I think but it was fine for me (apart from the student ramming the speculum against my cervix!).

Did they say why you reacted so painfully to it? Hope you are feeling better soon and can think about enduring it again :(

Feel for you, OP Flowers

I'm afraid I can't be much help because my hycosy was virtually painless but I had a hysteroscopy without being knocked out and it was the pits.

Can you ask them to do a lap and dye instead, and knock you out for it? Or at least sedate you for another hycosy?

That sounds absolutely horrendous and very similar to my own experience a few years ago, only in my experience the whole procedure had to be abandoned due to the horrific pain. They couldn't get the tube up to where they needed it to go and seemed to keep being blocked.

I had a lap instead and the Dr discovered I had severe endo, which he said explained why my hycosy didn't go well. Not saying you may have endo, just sharing my experience.

I agree with sparechange, either ask for sedation for the next procedure or ask that a lap
is done.

Hope you're feeling better now Flowers

My FS wants me to have a lap as she suspects mild endo. Everything was fine in feb but now my left ovary is attached to pelvis. I am experiencing more pain with every cycle and pain during ovulation. Only on left side and that's the side the dye didn't pass through.

It's just gotten way worse over the past year. Almost ever since we decided to try for a baby. dammit.

I'd ask for the hycosy with a lap but TBH I think if I have to have a lap I will seek out a top endo specialist (just in case they find that) and I'd do that privately. Of cause you can't have a hycosy on insurance. I'd pay £400 to have that test done whilst I am out of it. I'd rather pay that then do this ever again. (she says whilst thinking about actually pushing out a baby)

I don't know where you are based but one of the best endo docs in London/SE is Robert Richardson who has a private practice at the Lister hospital

He is excellent, and also takes a special interest in fertility issues
