Just got back from the GP after 10 months TTC#2 & having irregular periods but on off cramps, nausea, back pain & frequent urinating. GP felt my stomach & it was tender & achey so he's referred me for blood tests, swabs & a ultrasound in the next 4 weeks.

Anyone else had this testing? What did it reveal for you? On the one hand I'm feeling positive to get some help, but I'm so uncomfortable right now.

Sorry you're feeling down OP. I have nothing useful to say, just that it's great you're now getting support and hopefully you'll have some answers soon. Good luck Flowers

What is the swab for?

I've got a blood test this month (that is, if I can pin point ovulation - CD17 and still waiting for a positive Hmm) and last time round - before dd - I had an ultrasound. It was a dildocam, so not the most pleasant experience ever, but it wasn't painful.

At the very least, it's good to know you've got the ball rolling and may be closer to answers. I'm very intrigued about what my bloods will show. Last time the main thing investigations showed was hypothyroidism, which I've now got under control, so I'm slightly gutted to have reached the 12 month mark again, when I thought our main problem was solved. Although, with us there was also a potential issue with DH's sperm. His first sa came out at a very low count (although we since saw that it wasn't analysed for over an hour after it was sent to the lab) and his second one was even worse, but as we conceived a month or two after that, I do wonder whether the second one was so bad due to the stress of the first!! So, again, it will be intriguing to see what the results say this time...

Good luck with all of yours! x

@curliegirlie - swabs are to check for any infection. He said he would check bloods for thyroid problems amongst other things.

I've had all these tests and all came back normal, I now have a referral to the fertility clinic for further tests to check there are no blockages in my Fallopian tubes [Blush] I think the blood tests & ultrasounds are to rule out thyroid disorders and PCOS, they'll probably ask your partner to have sperm analysis too. Fingers crossed for BFP's for us all!

How did you find the swab testing? Was your referral pretty quick?

The swab was fine, just like a smear test, the internal scan wasn't bad either just a bit strange, not painful. After i'd had these tests & DH had sperm analysis we waited about a month for the referral so it was quite quick but judging by what I've read on here the timings can vary loads depending where you are. Also it might be worth your DP speaking to his Dr about the sperm analysis as they wont refer you until you have this.
Fingers crossed it'll be quick for you, it can be so frustrating but at least you've got the ball rolling on the tests

Hopefully it won't be too long. He said he would refer me so I can get the appointment in within the next month so it all slots in together. He didn't mention testing anything with DH, he seemed a little concerned about the tenderness I was having on my left side of my pelvis.

Well its good that he referred you quickly, I hope it all goes OK for you, try not to worry about the tests too much, I was pretty anxious about them but honestly none so far have been painful and I just think it will be good practice for when we are pregnant, we'll be used to all the prodding and poking 'down there' lol

CoconutGal · 11/09/2017 19:35

@LuItaliana - thank you. I'm sure there will be plenty of times we get tested for bloods & god knows what else.
