Milk

Argh I've been googling again...Argh... Now I've read that skimmed and low fat milk isn't good for fertility but full fat organic is ok.. ?I'm either about to ov or just ov ... I've been having Ovaltine/hot Choc a few times a week thinking it would be good and using skimmed milk... Worried I'm out for this month until I cut back my milk and change to full fat? Anyone conceived while having skimmed milk regularly?

Don't worry about this one too much. I tend to assume most things that go on about organic are not in the EU, but are likely in America where there is a more notable difference between organic and non-organic.

Whole milk has slightly more goodies than skimmed or semi (especially calcium if I remember correctly) but I certainly wouldn't say you should avoid skimmed or semi. I drink semi-skimmed in my tea, but have some full fat greek yoghurt and I think that balances out.

I'm sure it's not the thing preventing conception for you. Long term you might consider changing, but honestly it won't make a difference to your life...

Agree with pps, and just for some anecdotal evidence - my friend hates milk, can only bring herself to use a tiny drop of 1% or skimmed in her tea, and easily (as far as I know) conceived 4 babies.

She did try to get more calcium in via cheese, but couldn't stand any other dairy products.

That's what I mean @chevrechevre they say less dairy the better... So you're friend not having dairy and conceiving well supports that too... Think I'll just cut down rather than stop and maybe I'll change to semi skimmed... 😐

Oh sorry Hulaballoo I completely missed it was about less dairy being better. Are you ovulating? If so, I wouldn't worry that the dairy is affecting things, as the Harvard research looked at frequency of low fat dairy and ovulatory failure.

If you'd feel better you could throw in a glass of whole milk but it's very much a 'may help' than 'will help'.

I'm not sure if I'm ovulating 🙁 I've only been using internet cheapies... They get darker but not as dark as control... I've run out this month ... Darkest was on the 8th but was still quite dark yesterday and the day before. I don't get obvious EWCM... Sorry tmi at the moment more creamy watery and last week I found it hard to tell as I was dtd a lot so I just want sure if it was sperm or cm or both etc. Starting to panic a little. I conceived first time with both DDs and with MMC and since then nothing. Worried the erpc has just messed everything up. Plus times ticking... Soon 38. DH doesn't want to talk about any of this stuff ...Ov cm etc he says it's too much pressure on him and unromantic which I get a bit but I have no one to talk to
So thanks for replies, means a lot. Maybe dairy could be the key. I come from quite an allergenic family... So frustratIMG 😥

I drink loads of semi skimmed milk and conceived in a few months.

LapinR0se · 11/09/2017 15:54

Genuinely I wouldn't get hung up on this. We did IVF at the Lister and I asked all about diet first and she didn't say anything about dairy. Her only advice was to limit alcohol consumption and of course not to smoke.
I would be more inclined to get bloods done and know for sure whether you are ovulating or not.

As an aside, are you aware you can take your temp each morning and the pattern will tell you if you're ovulating and when. Google body basal temperature / temperature charting for fertility. Cheaper than ovulation sticks, especially if you find they don't work very well for you
