Acupuncture and ttc - what's going on?!

Apologies in advance for the long post - just wondered if anyone has any experience of their cycles going a bit haywire after acupuncture? I posted this on the TTC 40+ thread but thought I would start a thread too for more traffic.

I've been ttc #1 for over a year now and turned 40 a few months ago. Not a sniff of a bfp in the time we've been ttc.

Cycles are always 26-28 days and have been aware for the last while that I was ovulating around days 10-12. Confirmed this with opk's but I was pretty certain i was ovulating then anyway. I was worried that I was ovulating very early so visited GP and have been having acupuncture since July. Have had around 4 sessions and my cycle has lengthened slightly which pushed ovulation back to around day 12 so I was really pleased with that and thought things were moving in the right direction. Day 21 progesterone was absolutely fine too and we're waiting for my partner to have sperm analysis done.

However, this month has been really weird and I was wondering if anyone has any advice or something similar happen to them. I had been using clear blue dual hormone OPK's since day 8 and had negatives up until day 15 which was strange for me. I've been ovulating pretty regularly (albeit early) for as long as I can remember. Finally got a flashing smiley on Sat (day 16) and up until yesterday so 4 days of flashing smilies with no peak. Thought I might just ovulate late this month. Then yesterday, I had cramping and a headache and some nausea and what seems to be my period started - on day 19! I've never had mid cycle bleeding before and period never started before day 26. Apologies for tmi but it's quite stringy and mostly brown/dark red. More than spotting though and still have mild cramps. I have no idea what's going on! I wondered if it could be implantation bleeding which is a very very slight possibility but then according to this months OPK's, I haven't ovulated this month and it would have to have been around day 10 which is when I was getting negative OPK results!
I'm not sure whether to see the GP or whether they'll just dismiss it as a weird af due to my age, although this is very unusual for me. I managed to get an appt for today but not sure whether to go or not.
Or is it the acupuncture messing things up? Anyone any advice or something similar happen to them?

@bloomingheather oh congratulations! I too have low AMH and we are deciding whether to go for it with IVF. It seems like a difficult route to take as you don't get many eggs! not sure if i'm ready for the leap yet. thanks so much for replying even though i know its a very old post x

Thank you Flowers. We were very lucky.

It's a very difficult decision to make, I know. We had 2 tries (one NHS and one private) and I only ever got 3 eggs at the most but managed to get 2 good quality embryos out of 2 eggs the second time, and one of them was our little one. It is a tough process and so very hard emotionally but I desperately wanted children and it was really our only option if we wanted a chance to have them at my age. We were told that we had a less than 10% chance of it working and I was ready to move onto donor eggs after it, but we got incredibly lucky (very skilled embryologists helped a little too Wink.

@bloomingheather oh amazing! if you dont mind me asking, which ivf clinic did you use? Did you do anything different the second time? Just gathering recommendations for low AMH so when we are ready we have an idea of where to go. thanks again :)

I don't mind at all - I felt so isolated when I was ttc and waiting for treatment so I am always happy to talk about our experience. We are in Scotland so we used a clinic called GCRM. They were brilliant.
I didn't really do much different the second time - took the same supplements etc. I was a bit stricter with my diet (food wise) although still had a few drinks here and there!
