Too scared to test?

Not sure if this sounds odd or is a common thing. Currently 6 days late but I don't want to do a test because I would rather have a later period than a chemical pregnancy or early miscarriage. Does that make sense?

Totally understandable but don't you want to know you were pregnant and know you can get pregnant?

hellomarshmallow · 05/09/2017 19:05

Makes total sense. Set yourself a time, work with what you're comfortable with

Crazycat1980 · 05/09/2017 19:12

Thanks. I set myself times and then put it off. When do you think I should for actual health reasons?

Now! If you are 6 days late, it is unlikely you will have a chemical or a late period. Have you got any symptoms?

Please do test. You may be pleasantly surprised Smile but I understand your hesitation Flowers

Crazycat1980 · 05/09/2017 19:19

Can you explain a chemical to me? I read t a lot on the bird but don't get it...
Symptoms.... yes but could I be imagining them? Really tired and lethargic. Sore boobs. But all of that could be period on its way...

I've been the same for 2 days. Logical head says, if you're pregnant you're pregnant. When you test doesn't change that. Mad hormone head says, every time you think you are, you test and your period starts the next day.

Mammabear31 · 05/09/2017 19:25

A chemical pregnancy is when you have a positive test, and (I'm my experience at least) you start bleeding 4-5 days later. I'm not sure if it can happen sooner or later than that, as I said that's my experience.

Yes this is it exactly! And I had a miscarriage a few years ago and it was literally three days after I tested and I had put off that test for weeks so it makes me more paranoid.

Oh bless you Crazy, no wonder you're reluctant Flowers

Crazy really sorry you're feeling like this. Completely understand it after a prior miscarriage, but I think if this is a pregnancy that turns into a second miscarriage you need to know because if it happens another time after that you'd be entitled to testing to try and find a potential cause. I've had three miscarriages, two at 5 weeks and one at 7. A few people have suggested it would have been better if I'd not tested before my 5 week ones because then I wouldn't know but a) that's not really true anyway, for me a miscarriage at 5 weeks was different enough to a 'normal' period that I would have known something was up, especially after a period that was late by over a week! and b) (and I think more importantly) the recurrent miscarriage consultant I've seen thought it was worth running a whole barrage of tests on me; they might well all come back fine, but I think it is better to know that, and so access testing at the first point you can.

Thank you. That is really sensible advice. I hope you get some good news soon and the tests turn out ok or help you in your journey x
