Conceiving with light periods

Hi all

Has anyone conceived reasonably easily (within a year) that had light periods? My cycle is 29 / 30 days pretty regular. But I have very light periods. So I’ve started my period about 10am today, and it will stop about 6pm tomorrow. Some light spotting tomorrow evening and perhaps Thursday morning. Google and some Mumsnet searches indicate such light periods mean I may find it hard to conceive. Only been TTC for one month so not worried as such, but having read some bad things I’m hoping there will be some positive stories.

:)

No positives to add...but mine are similar so interested to hear the responses. I have one day where it's what I would class as a "normal" flow (changing a normal tampax every 3-4 hours) and then down to light by day 2 and then just a bit of brown spotting by day 3 and it's gone. Before the pill I had pretty normal 4/5 day periods with 2-3 days of proper flow. It's only my 3rd cycle off the pill so hoping it will go back to how it was before soon!

Me! I also have pcos but conceived my DD after 11 months and son after 3. However be warned after children my periods are now very heavy and last a week.

I had periods like that after having IUD (non hormonal) taken out. Went from good 5-7 days prior to about 48hours after. I conceived naturally during 9th cycle, but even just before that my periods were still very short!

Again following with interest. I'm in same boat. This month had day of spotting day of light bleeding then day nothing then light bleeding and now nothing! I'm starting accupuncture to try and sort them out a bit!! On cycle 10 now!

Hi all, I've never been pregnant but am ttc. I have a variety of issues but one of which was very light very irregular periods. (Like 100+ days, followed by two to three days of light / spotting.

One month ago I started taking vitex and dong quai on top of my prenatals. Within two days I had my first period since January which was long if not heavy. Then I've had around a 32 day cycle, tracked ovulation and had the heaviest period I've ever had!!

I'm not saying everyone should start taking these. I did discuss with my gp who was dubious. The dong quai I believe is responsible for thickening my lining as it promotes blood to the pelvic region. The vitex I was taking to regulate my cycle. I cannot believe how quickly this regime seems to have had an effect, but it might have been a coincidence or just one herb.

Please, anyone thinking of doing something similar, do your research and chat to your gp. It could make your problems worse. Also DO NOT take dong quai when pregnant as it can cause bleeding and therefore miscarriage. I am taking both only up to ovulation just in case I get pregnant.

Forgot to say, light periods may be associated with anovulatory cycles so worth tracking bbt etc if you can to confirm if / when you ovulate

My periods are very light - similar to Gntpleaee and MegEmski. 2 days max and very light. They are pretty regular though - every 28-30 days. I have three children, two conceived on first cycle and one on eighth cycle (the middle one).
Never caused me any issues although my second child took several months.
My period only got like this in my early 30s shortly before i had first child.
Also just to say I did ask my GP and also a fertility specialist whether light periods were any issue and they insisted not. Very heavy can indicate a problem though.
Good luck!

Greylilypad · 05/09/2017 20:06

Just to add I was not on the pill for years before this happened so that was not the cause of mine becoming light

Wreckingball25 · 05/09/2017 20:18

I had two 1.5 day very light periods after coming off the pill (after 20 years and running packs together) and conceived after the second period (aged almost 37)

Gimmeallthecoffee · 05/09/2017 20:27

Hello, just wanted to add that I too have e light periods that last maybe 2-3 days . The period the month before I confirmed was very light (lasted a day and the flow was so light I couldn't use a tampon). However, I've gotten pregnant with both of my children in the first cycle of trying xx

MegEmski · 05/09/2017 21:16

Great to read these answers, thanks!
Yes sometimes my flow is so light I can't use a tampon

I have light periods. My gynaecologist also said it wasn't a problem. He said it would only be a problem if it meant I wasn't ovulating but my 21day progesterone test result (plus positive OPKs) mean that I am.

MegEmski · 06/09/2017 08:33

I've started taking my temperature and using an app - this should tell me if I ovulate? I'm using the natural cycles app

whats OPKs - sorry - getting most of the abbreviations but not all!

Ah worked it out. Ordered some!

I use natural cycles too @MegEmski and can clearly see a temp rise around ovulation each month, I've done OPK's but found it really hard to time them right to get a good strong positive!

Janefx40 · 06/09/2017 12:15

I'm not sure if ovulation predictor kits (?) alone can be a certain test - it is technically positive to get an LH surge and not ovulate but I think they are an indicator taken in conjunction with other things x

MegEmski · 06/09/2017 15:07

thanks good to know. My natural cycles app which I've been using as contraception until now indicates I do ovulate so fingers crossed.

Typically having posted this thread, my period is much heavier this time! I have been taking vitamins for conception, can't remember which ones exactly. Wonder if thats made any difference?!
