Ultrascan pcos

I had my internal ultrascan today! Ive got 15 cysts on each overy. So she thinks its likely i do have pcos! Good news is my overies and lining looked ok. Waiting to see my dr on Friday for next steps.

If anyone else has just been diagnosed what are the next steps and if there anything I should make sure I ask my dr?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Was this a transvaginal scan? I think I am being sent for one and i'm nervous!!

I was diagnosed with PCOS in May after going 10 months without a period. The first step towards diagnosis was a blood test (which I assume you've already had?) which showed I had slightly elevated testosterone levels, then I had an internal scan which confirmed I had polycystic ovaries and then I was referred to a specialist at the hospital. At that appointment they took height and weight measurements and talked through my (and my husband's) past medical history and then, given I'm 31 and therefore not yet too close to the IVF cut off age, they prescribed me metformin to try and regulate my cycle and give me a chance to conceive naturally. I've been on that for nearly 4 months now and have had two periods in that time. I've also found that (along with changing my diet) it has helped me to lose weight which in turn should help the condition. So I'm hopeful! I'd fully recommend looking up Verity who are the PCOS charity as there's loads of information on their website.

In terms of advice, I'd push your GP for a referral as you really need to talk to a specialist to get the best advice on how to treat it as everyone with PCOS is a bit different. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much very useful info! :)

I joined a gym two months ago and lost 6 pounds and my periods came back in that time so just need to carry that on!

Good luck with the baby making! Did the people you saw say if you can conceive with pcos?

About 4 or 5 years ago I got diagnosed with PCOS. I had an ultrasound and kind of just pushed for a diagnosis so I'd know if I did have it as I recognised some of the symptoms in myself. I was not TTC at the time and the doctor took pains to tell me that I absolutely could get pregnant and to not use the diagnoses as a form of contraception!
As I've already been diagnosed I'm hoping it might help speed up getting help if we need it.

Good luck!! Ive been trying to conceive since april, but now getting married next year. So I will put the baby making on hold (if it happens it happens, not going to try and stop it).

That gives me 8 months to get my pcos condition under control.

Hi just wanted to pop in and say I was dx with PCOS whilst trying to conceive along with under active thyroid. I went on to have 2 daughters without fertility treatment albeit with a 6 year gap (and not using contraception in that time either) my periods were very irregular (usually 5 a year sometimes as low as 3) I'm now nearing the menopause and I have regular periods every 28 days like clockwork - Mother Nature is a weird one - good luck

Been to the drs.. she wanted to put me back onto the pill. But as I said no she is referring me to a gynaecologist for pcos. And said there are some drugs they can give me to regulate my hormones and then I should go back to normal.
