Anyone eaten specific food to determine sex and it worked

So I was at a family party last night and was told one of my aunts ate specific foods to have a girl, and it worked...
I didn't even know this was a "thing" has anyone else done this?
I'm actually a mother to a DD and never did this I'm more than over the moon to have her and whatever may or may not be next time around. I'm just curious and have too much time on my hands!

It's not a thing. Sperm determines the sex of the baby.

embarassedgen · 04/09/2017 08:57

my friend did and had a girl and thinks it played a part in it.

AfunaMbatata · 04/09/2017 08:57

How does she know she wouldn't have had a girl anyway?Grin

Apparently if you smoke staight after sex you have a slightly higher Janice if having a boy ..was years ago when I read about it though so is most likely bullshit.

AfunaMbatata · 04/09/2017 08:58

Chance*

And it said it was something to do with creating the best conditions for the Y sperms .

TiramisuQueenoftheFaeries · 04/09/2017 09:00

Of course it doesn't work, it would be a violation of the most basic biology of reproduction.

When you have a 50% chance of getting either sex whatever you do there will always be idiots people willing to swear blind that they did X and it worked.

stayawake · 04/09/2017 09:02

Of corse it isn't a real thing. It's 50/50. Sperm decides, not random food.

Cupcakesandlove · 04/09/2017 09:04

I never said it worked was purely curious as to if anyone else had tried it.
Of course it's coincidence just like having the vindaloo the evening I went into labour, who's to say I wouldn't of had my daughter that day anyway??
It's harmless and i was merely curious.

I really want it to be a thing... but it sounds like bollocks!

Cupcakesandlove · 04/09/2017 09:05

Thanks for calling my aunt an idiot though, appreciated. tiramisu

What about any old wives tales to tell what your having? I really want to know Grin

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 04/09/2017 09:07

To be fair though, if she believes food determines sex (when a quick think or even google will tell you otherwise) then she can't be the sharpest tool in the box.

Nancy91 · 04/09/2017 09:07

The answer to your thread title is no. It hasn't worked for anyone because that is not how sex is decided.

Cupcakesandlove · 04/09/2017 09:09

I think there is one about sweet vs sour/savoury food for a girl or boy. However mine was sausages with my daughter Hmm berries

Cupcakesandlove · 04/09/2017 09:12

garybarlow I don't think she's harming anyone in believing it though is she? And you judging her based on her belief says more about you than her.
I asked a question, like so what if anyone did believe it. I personally didn't know it was a "thing" hence why I posted.
Clearly this whole discussion board is a judgement centre on what people believe. I thought we could have an adult discussion about it and a little harmless fun, yet people go below the belt. Sad really!

Personally, I think accepting things that are self-evidently impossible makes your brain go all soft, and I don't apologise for that. A hell of a lot of harm gets done by credulity and unwillingness to apply a teaspoon of critical thinking.

Think about if this was actually true. Diets vary massively across the world by culture and environment, so you'd find places, countries, whole cultures where one sex would start to predominate. That would be DISASTROUS. That shit starts wars. Instead you invariably find the rate at birth is 50:50 (unless sex-selective abortion's been at work).

I don't think the obsession with what sex a child is and trying to influence it is harmless.

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 04/09/2017 09:31

I have absolutely no compunction judging people who believe demonstrably false claptrap. We have a great and free at the point of use education system in this country. Presumably your aunt truanted during biology GCSE?

BertramTheWalrus · 04/09/2017 09:33

sweet vs sour/savoury food for a girl or boy
Obviously the sweet foods are for a girl and the savoury for a boy.... Says it all really.

I agree that the obsession with determining the sex of a baby is not harmless. Look what that attitudes is doing in certain parts of the world.

RedBlackberries · 04/09/2017 09:38

Poor op!

If I knew of fun ways to guess the sex I would but I'd take it with a massive pinch of salt. It's just for a laugh. I don't mind what I have. Do you particularly want a girl or boy op?

Cupcakesandlove · 04/09/2017 09:43

Rightttttt on that note I think you need to take a look at yourselfs before judging others.
My aunt actually works for the local social services, has had stage 2 breast cancer and is currently under going chemotherapy. Maybe what your saying is true and she is half a penny short, however if it cheered her up then and now believeing it then so be it.
I genuinely didn't think a bit of harmless fun in a discussion board could bring up such nasty comments.
I don't have the time for this negativity on a Monday!
Have a lovely day and take a look within!

I reallllyyyyyy want a son Hmm so I think I might take up bananas at every meal, it's a joke get a life a bit of light hearted fun.

When your pregnant it's a stressful time and I had a bad experience during pregnancy and when my daughter was born. In those early days the guessing and old wives tales made me laugh during times when I could of cried.

Happy Monday!

red

I have a child who was planned. I have a daughter, and it was a child I wanted not a girl or a boy. If I have another the same will apply.

My daughter was very much wanted x

There's a website called ingender where there's lots of discussion about this kind of thing and recommended diets for conceiving a particular sex. It's based on the theory that male and female sperm and embryos prefer different environments so are more likely to implant and grow successfully. No idea if there's anything in it at all.

user1499786242 · 04/09/2017 10:17

Gender swaying is a thing
It's not so much what you eat but the maternal conditions
It's a fact that more girls are born in times of famine
So if you follow a certain diet then you can increase your chance of girl
Apparently increases the odds to 70/75%
My friend did it after 3 boys and swears by it
No one will ever know for certain if it works or not!

NimbleKnitter · 04/09/2017 10:35

You can do it, but if anyone is so desperate for a girl they'd have a vinegar douche, you're welcome to it.

You do it by making the conditions for conception more favourable to male/female sperm, but the balance is so precarious you could risk your chances of conceiving at all.

Food is unlikely to do it. It's more timing of intercourse and the aforementioned vinegar douche.

Both of these things make it more difficult to conceive overall.

I also have to agree that gender selection is detrimental to society (probably not in your case, but certainly in general).

LetDownFedUp · 04/09/2017 10:36

I imagine it worked for about 50% if the people that tried it.

jesterkat · 04/09/2017 12:16

There's a school of thought that when you have sex in relation to when you ovulate can influence it we followed if for a girl and we had a girl, who knows if it made a difference though
