Chances of gender for baby number 3

I have 2 boys and would one day love to try for a girl, what are the chances that it could be a girl since I have 2 boys already?

Has anyone had 2 of one gender and by chance got a third of a different sex without trying gender swaying tactics? I would only try one last time..

2 girls and then a boy here (not even trying for a third Grin)

fuzzywuzzy · 01/09/2017 22:51

I have three DD's youngest born this year different father from older two.

lightgreenglass · 01/09/2017 22:52

I've got two boys and pregnant with a girl, we weren't trying for a girl. My last pregnancy - late miscarriage was also a girl.

We wanted a third and wasn't bothered by gender so went for it.

If anything I was slightly disappointed as really imagined myself with three boys - I'm over it now and know it doesn't make much difference what sex they are.

DramaAlpaca · 01/09/2017 22:54

At my scan with DC3 the sonographer told me that based on her long experience of doing scans there was a 75 per cent chance of it being another boy because I had two boys already. She was spot on, we had boy number three.

In my own area I know loads of families with three boys, a few with three girls and a handful with two of one sex followed by one of the other.

Mrsbclinton · 01/09/2017 22:54

I have two girls & a boy on my third (and final) pregnancy.
Wasnt trying for a boy & didnt find out gender during any of my pregnancies.

First dc ( stillborn) Girl

2nd dc Boy

3rd dc girl

I am expecting again now and it's a boy!

fateisfate · 01/09/2017 23:00

DramaAlpaca I also know lots of family's with same gender 3 times and the 4th was a different gender but I wouldn't go for 4th, tbh I'm pushing myself with 3rd just for the sake of a girl!! Hope I'm not being silly as of course it could be another boy! It's a risk..

Two boys followed by twin girls here!

Bananamama1213 · 01/09/2017 23:09

Boy, girl and unknown (until November) over here!

My mum has 4 girls and MIL has 3 boys..

I am hoping for another girl but I'd be happy with a boy. My DC both want a little sister so I don't think they would be haha!

blameitonthebipolar · 01/09/2017 23:15

My brother was desperate for a son, had two wonderful daughters who he adored but really wanted a boy.
Him and exw decided to try and when they went for the scan they found out it was actually two boys on the screen!

I have a ds and a dd and am done but would have been done regardless of gender.

I know a woman locally who had 5 girls and then two "happy accidents" both boys.

Good luck op Flowers

Plantpot83 · 01/09/2017 23:19

I think that your odds remain 50/50 as to which sex you'll have with each child. Just because you have two, three or four boys it doesn't mean you'll be more likely to have a girl, in fact you are very slightly more likely to have another boy apparently. I only have one DD so no experience of this but I'm one of four girls ( no boys ) so I'd always presume that you could end up having all babies of the same sex! There's a forum called 'in gender' which has loads of info about this type of thing.

WobblyChair · 01/09/2017 23:33

2 boys and pregnant with a girl! I've been lucky and have got what I've hoped for every time. A third boy would have been lovely too but as this is probably our last I would have always felt a little sad about not having had a daughter.

LanaDReye · 01/09/2017 23:37

It's still 50.50 odds as the balance is overall around 50% female and 50% boys. For every family with 5+ boys there will be a family with 5+ girls.

schoolgaterebel · 01/09/2017 23:45

The chances are 50/50 if you are an inanimate object like a coin. But in this case, biology changes the outcome. There is a genetic component to gender determination, after having two of the same gender, the odds of having another of the same is much higher, because chances are you are genetically predisposed that way.

MrsJoyOdell · 01/09/2017 23:53

3 boys before my girl! Before 3 I believe it sits at 50/50 still, but once you have 3 the same it tips slightly and your 1 (ish) % more likely to have the same again. No idea why.

MrsJoyOdell · 01/09/2017 23:55

Oh, and I swayed before falling with my daughter, but not in an obessive way.

BertieBotts · 02/09/2017 00:01

It's still 50/50. It's just that it's not evenly split. If you flip a coin several times in a row you'll often find that you get runs of all heads or all tails, it doesn't change the overall odds of heads or tails being 50/50.

There are biological conditions which can cause you as a couple to only produce successful pregnancies of one sex but they think this is pretty rare. It's certainly not so common that you could tell from having had two children of the same sex.

DilysMoon · 02/09/2017 00:05

I had 2 boys now 12 & 9 then a girl who is 3. Same dad, didn't do anything differently, just wanted a 3rd dc. Good luck!

Florence16 · 02/09/2017 07:35

I have two older brothers and am a girl, mum did want a girl but didn't do anything special either.

SayNoToCarrots · 02/09/2017 07:55

Fifty / fifty, unless your other half has only female or only male sperm, which is biologically impossible.

Nessalina · 02/09/2017 08:56

First pregnancy Girl (TFMR)
Second pregnancy Boy (my nutty DS)
Third pregnancy Girl (due in 5 weeks!)
