Hi, I'm 38 and trying ttc with my partner of 5years! I've got 3 kids from a previous relationship and didn't have any trouble conceiving then. Just a little worried it may be harder this time! I'd love to hear success stories please? Smile

I used pre seed both times before when conceiving so recommend that again. Also planning on using a CBFM. Will dtd every couple days this month too. Any other tips?!

Can I ask what vitamins/tablets you're all taking? I was taking seven seas trying for a baby but after reading on here that it lengthens your cycle I've switched to Aldi's folic acid....

Dizzybintess · 30/08/2017 08:05

Armygirk x yes most definitely
I had a section last time after 6 days of labour my dd was stuck

Just a tip for everyone trying, this could be a fluke but I was told this years ago by a nurse (a friend) and it was worked for my friends, my sister and me. I have been lucky with conceiving and it's not taken taht long and I think it could be to do with this.

Last month (our first month trying) I used an app and we dtd 13th and 14th. The app was saying these are the best days as do the NHS website which says the 14th day from the first day of your period is your most fertile.

Well the nurse years ago told me the 10th day. I have a 28 day cycle. When we concieved my first child, we dtd on the 8th and 9th and I got pregnant first time.
Last month as above, later and this month we dtd on the 8th and 10th and I got pregnant. On my App it said "small chance" on the 8th and 10th.

Hope you guys don't mind me relaying the information.

On average women ovulate on day 14 BUT everyone's cycle is different. You can ovulate days earlier or later than that. To pinpoint when you need a multi pronged approach - the opk sticks, checking cervical mucous and you can also take your basal temperature. The opks pick up the surge in lutenising hormone (LH) that occurs 24-36 hours before an egg is released. Cervical mucous consistency changes when ovulation is imminent, and you can use your basal body temperature to see when you have ovulated. There are several charting apps you can use to do this.

Pre seed isn't actively helping you to conceive - it's just a lubricant that isn't as damaging tonsoerm as most others. So if you need to use a lubricant use that, but if you don't need to use one then you're not increasing your chances by using it.

Vitamins: you need folic acid - that's really it. You can also take vitamin D, especially if you're living at higher latitudes (I live over 60 degrees north so I do) there's also some quite interesting new research about niacin (B3.) but anyway, any pregnancy safe multivitamin is fine. You don't need fancy ones. Make sure any vitamin you take is safe for pregnancy - some multivitamins aren't due to things like vitamin A content (vitamin A in excess is potently teratogenic.)

To use the opks correctly use them from a couple of days after your period ends. When the test line is as strong as/stronger than the control, that's a positive. You should then ovulate within 24-36 hours. One caveat: LH levels are not a direct measure of ovulation. The LH surge is part of the mechanism that triggers ovulation but it doesn't say 100% that you have ovulated. Anyway, have sex when you get a positive opk, and when your cervical mucous is right, at least every 48 hours and that will cover you (pun intended.)

I've just downloaded a fertility book onto my kindle. It's about foods which can help boost fertility. I'm a little overweight and I was doing ww but I think nourishing my body is a better way to go!

I'm 39 and 25wks pregnant with my first baby.
We started trying when I was 38 in Nov/Dec last year and I got my BFP on 6th April this year so 5-6cycles after stopping the pill. I'm also overweight but healthy. Good luck x

How are we all? Smile

Impatientmummy36 · 11/09/2017 13:12

Hi all,

I'm 36 and ttc #2 (little boy is 3).

Now on cycle 8 and had an early MC in Aug at 5 weeks so starting to really worry now.

Am 37 in Dec and feeling increasingly angry with myself for waiting, wish we'd started ttc sooner to give us more time without the pressure

Hope everyone's well today.

Greggs re supplements I take pregnacare conception, high dose omega dha/EPA and ubiquinol for, ahem, "older eggs." :) Also evening primrose between day 1 and ovulation (then I stop). I've also taken larginine and Maca in the past but stopped as panicked was affecting my cycles. Who knows if they're doing anything but hopefully they do some good for general health if nothing else which has to be good for Baby, when one does appear.

X

GreggsSausageRolls · 11/09/2017 19:29

@Impatientmummy36 where do you get them all from? holland and barret?

GreyCloudsToday · 11/09/2017 19:43

Hey, I'm 35 and ttc number 2 (DC is 3 1/2). Just had an early mc at 6 weeks, so hoping for a better outcome next time (it's my third mc Sad). Nice to read all the positive stories!

Pinky333777 · 11/09/2017 19:48

I'm 37 and 13wks preg with baby number one 😊

WaterHorizon · 12/09/2017 06:58

I just turned 38 and TTC #1. On cycle 2 Smile

Impatientmummy36 · 12/09/2017 07:35

Greggs a mixture... I got the Maca, larginine and and EPO from holland and barrat...

Then realised could get ubiquinol on Amazon as nowhere else seemed to have the high strength tablets. Pregnacare also cheapest on Amazon. I was paying loads for the high strength Omega then found for a couple of quid at the local Well chemist.

Greyclouds I'm sorry for your losses, ttc is hard enough and then that happens... its devastating even in the early weeks. it's only happened once to me, last month, I'm so sorry it's happened 3 times for you, I hope you're ok?

Looks like we are in same boat with 3.5 yr olds as well.... good luck this month x

I'm 35 on Thursday and TTC #1. We're on cycle 9 and my AF just began.

Starting to get quite deflated now 😞

Can anyone recommend any good, reusable opks?

Impatientmummy36 · 12/09/2017 10:35

Hi fairy I use the clearblue dual hormone ones. Not cheapest, and I know people swear by the Internet cheapies you can get, but I like that there's no squinting at sticks/wondering is it getting darker etc. So I like just having a smiley face or not to tell me what's going on with no hassle! You can re use the reader, and depending on how long your cycles are you don't necessarily use that many sticks.

Af just began for me too last night, sorry for yours too , :( onto the next cycle...... x

Hey. I turn 39 next thurs and am ttc#1. Had a BFP on 18 July and an early scan which showed heartbeat. Sadly baby died and found out had MMC at 10 weeks.

Just waiting for bleeding to stop now and scan on Tues to check allclear after the tablets and then we will try again.

Petrified I'll never have a baby so positive stories would be good.

When we conceived on the MC baby it happened first go.

FairyAnn · 12/09/2017 16:52

Thanks impatientmummy I'll give it a go

Littleredwagon2308 · 13/09/2017 15:10

Hi Ladies, I'm 37 and TTC#1, cycle 2 and in tww, AF due 17.

I'm really interested in what you said Anatidae:
"The idea that fertility goes off a cliff at 35 is based on very old and not very relevant data, by the way."
Where did you read that? I hear in the media again and again that fertility drops off dramatically after 35, so if that's not scientifically proven it's awful of the media to perpetuate that myth.

We had been NTNP for a few months, but I wish we had tried earlier. It's so difficult not to get all worked up (I've failed today).

Sorry to the ladies who had a MC. You are very brave and thank you for sharing.

Impatientmummy36 · 13/09/2017 20:52

Littlered have you seen "the impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant?" (It's on Amazon kindle.) She pulls together findings from various studies. She found that the scary 'over 35' stats that are often cited originally came from a study of birth records in rural France between the 1600s and 1800s. The more recent research she found is much more positive & the decline in fertility isn't as steep. I've read a lot of books now, all on Amazon, and it's not as bad as I thought! 'It all starts with the egg' and 'how to improve egg quality" were interesting too for us over 35s :) x

Impatientmummy36 · 13/09/2017 20:54

*Sorry tried to put 3 screen shots from kindle but wouldn't let me!

Littleredwagon2308 · 13/09/2017 21:52

@Impatientmummy36 Thank you for all that. It's v interesting. I'll look for that book.

Bubblesoup · 14/09/2017 09:59

At 37 I got pregnant with my first after 10 months (and an early miscarriage at 8 months). When I was 39 I got pregnant with my second baby on our very first cycle! I think DP was disappointed it happened so quickly! Haha!

Bubblesoup · 14/09/2017 10:08

Oh and I really recommend the book: 'The Sperm meets egg plan' by Deanna Roy. I have it as a kindle book and she recommends a formula for when in your cycle to have sex. For me, it was when I did that that I conceived DD1 instantly. And we followed it again for DD2 and, as I said above, conceived first cycle Smile

Littleredwagon2308 · 14/09/2017 13:40

Bubblesoup Sorry about your loss and thank you very much for that book recommendation. I don't have a kindle unfortunately. I had found SMEP online and followed it this cycle. I initially got my O date wrong though (first time using OPKs and got a bit excited when I got quite a darker line). I then educated myself on OPKs with looking at pictures online. I then We dtd during my window and now im in the TWW. Af due 18 so FX!
