2WW - alcohol, hot baths and camembert

Hi lovely ladies!

Just about to enter the 2WW - positive on the OPK yesterday. This is cycle 4 for us and we're trying to do everything right this time!

I was wondering what you all do in the 2WW, and when you 'start' from. I don't drink a lot (a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend) but I am partial to a hot bath!

When do you all stop drinking, bathing, cheese-ing? If at all? Is there anything else you avoid? Do you avoid/amend exercise?

My plan is no alcohol/coffee/hot baths/cheese from today, and moderate running and abdominal exercise. I don't know if this is too much or too little to be honest.

Hi, Im interested in the replies too...I have warm baths not hot during 2ww, still have a coffee or a tea one a day and the rest decaffeinated, little exercises ... Just walking as I get cramps if more... No alcohol but I don't drink anyways, cut down on fizzy drinks with caffeine and chocolate but don't completely cut it... Never heard of cheese to cut out...I thought you needed calcium to absorb vitamin D which is needed and that dairy can help not hinder bit not 100% sure. I'm trying to eat at least two to 3 of one of the following a day... Dark leafy greens, beans, eggs, salmon, blueberries/raspberries, flax, yoghurt.... No idea if I'm giving myself the best chance but hoping!! Had a mmc back in December but I was way more vitamin/ food conscious and more paranoid so I'm trying to relax a bit and just Aiming to eat healthy with a little of everything...

Lime19 · 19/08/2017 22:39

I'm sure this is just coincidence but each time I got pregnant, I've been very naughty. Once was Xmas tww and let's just say I drunk a lot and a great variety of drinks. This time I went on a hen party and drank lots, I even put on an inflatable sumo suit as part of it. Wasn't exactly looking after myself.

Also both times have been very active. Cycling and swimming at centre parcs and this time a month of intense exercise with a personal trainer.

Sod's law...

Hulaballoo · 19/08/2017 22:48

Hey Lime, nice to see you 😁 I was around in December during mmc. Hope you're well... I'm just starting to ttc again. X

Sharl2017 · 19/08/2017 23:14

My 2ww starts now too. I'm not avoiding anything and carrying on as normal until I get a BFP. The more I cut out and become conscious of the less likely I feel it is going to happen. I had a BFP in Feb when I was being super conscious and careful but unfortunately had an early MC so feel there's so much pressure and added anxieties now.

Gennz · 20/08/2017 00:26

I proceed as normal til I get a BFP.

That said I wasn't strict when I was pregnant with DS and I wouldn't be with any future pregnancy unless I was advised I was high risk or something.

Obviously I wouldn't smoke or drink (might have a glass of champers if it was Christmas but I felt so ill last time it's unlikely) and I'd avoid cat litter, pate and shellfish but I'm comfortable with drinking a coffee or two a day, blue cheese etc. some of the so called rules don't bear up to much scrutiny IMO.

stillvicarinatutu · 20/08/2017 00:29

my advice....is bollioks to it. do as you would until you know different!

Gennz · 20/08/2017 00:33

I get that some people are much stricter re alcohol than I am but there is absolutely no reason to avoid or alter your exercise routine!

Littleredwagon2308 · 20/08/2017 08:49

@PointeShoesAndTutus Thank you for starting this topic.

happybus28 · 20/08/2017 08:53

I'm either 7 or 8 dpo today. Other than cutting down on my caffeine I'm not doing anything different. Even had a couple of cocktails last night! I find altering my lifestyle too much just stresses me out and makes me anxious and makes the tww drag so I'm just carrying on as normal until I get a BFP.

PointeShoesAndTutus · 20/08/2017 08:54

Thanks for the responses. I initially thought I'd just carry on as normal, but as each month goes by I feel like I need a bit more control effort to conceive.

Good news about exercise though, as that is keeping me sane and helps distract from symptom spotting.

Apologies - with cheese I meant the soft rind cheeses (bride, Camembert) and not all cheese! That would be torture!

I didn't avoid anything really, infact 1st DC was unexpectedly conceieved over the christmas period and had been drinking/partying Shock until I realised I was pg (5 weeks).

My midwife explained baby isn't actually connected via the umbilical cord until around 6 weeks so its unlikely anything you eat/drink before then will affect the baby.

confused123456 · 20/08/2017 09:04

I didn't do anything different.
I never bath anyway as I don't like having a bath. I don't do exercise in that respect. The only cheese I have is normal cheddar and mozzarella on pizzas. I can't stand coffee at all, but I had tea as normal. And drinking, I carried on drinking as normal.
Even during my pregnancy, I had more tea than I probably should have, and I was drinking as well. But my baby was fine.
I worked out I conceived about the 27th of November 2014, but I didn't do a test until the 19th of December. In that time I was smoking, drinking, carrying on as normal. We were actively trying, so I knew I might be. But our baby was fine.

intelligentPutty · 20/08/2017 09:20

I think it's too much.... most of the tww is for the egg to travel and implant anyways.
I reckon that anything u do in this time would have absolutely NO effect on successful pregnancy or not.

happybus28 · 20/08/2017 09:27

I understand wanting some control pointe I used to be the same but I've been TTC well over a year now and I find it easier to take more of a laid back approach these days or I'll drive myself mad (and was doing). If changing the odd thing makes you feel better than there's no harm but as a pp said the baby doesn't get any nutrients off you until about 6 weeks anyway so nothing you eat/drink at this stage will have any impact.

I hope it doesn't take you as long as me to get your BFP but there could be a long road ahead of you, try and relax and take it easy a bit too!

RandomUsernameHere · 20/08/2017 09:37

That is really interesting Rebekah about the baby not being connected via the umbilical cord until 6 weeks, very useful to know!

Orangebird69 · 20/08/2017 09:42

I didn't give up anything until I got my bfp. And after then I still had rare steak, blue cheese, brie etc.. and the odd glass of something after 14 weeks. The only thing I didn't eat was liver/high vit A foods.

Littleredwagon2308 · 20/08/2017 09:45

I've decreased how much alcohol I drink. I was cutting down on alcohol too to help weight loss anyway.
I don't drink coffee often, because it can make anxious. I would ordinarily have a coffee as a treat, but I won't do that whist TTC.
I won't eat cheese which the NHS recommends to avoid.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 20/08/2017 09:59

I asked an expert in miscarriage this question, and he said to be reasonably sensible and not binge drink or drink more than a couple of cups of coffee a day, but otherwise to get on with my life as normal and not to stress about doing things 'right'. Obviously this was in regard to a problem staying pregnant rather than conceiving in the first place, but he seemed pretty clear that none of this stuff is going to make any difference in the early weeks.

Littleredwagon2308 · 20/08/2017 10:27

@LisaSimpsonsbff thank you for passing that professional advice on

Littleredwagon2308 · 20/08/2017 10:48

What's the advice given to woman TTC about starting exercise?
I want to join the gym after a 2 year break. I can't believe it's been that long. In my defence I've moved a couple of times and had a couple of injuries in that time.
I'd like to do some of the classes I used to do, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, spin. I'd like to also do some back strengthening exercises, maybe with the weight machines. I would use the aerobic machinery if there wasn't a class I could join/liked at the time I wanted to go. Swimming is an option too, not my fav though, I find it a bit boring.

Mrsjones17 · 20/08/2017 11:05

I wouldn't stop anything until I got my BFP. I think it would make my life hell. Especially no soft cheese!!! Suppose it depends where you are in trying. I'm on cycle 9 now and the thought of not hot baths and cheese for that long makes me shiver haha! In term of exercise the doctor told me the more the better. I've started training for traithlons since TTC and asked if this could be a contributing factor and they said no. As long as you are exercising and BMI stays in the healthy weight range and eating a good diet to provided you with what you need it should all be ok. Exercise has way too many positive benefits not just physically but also psychologically to stop doing it when your TTC.

Littleredwagon2308 · 20/08/2017 23:33

@Mrsjones17 good luck with the training and the triathlon
