Is it safe to ttc when dc1 is 7 months?

I've read loads online about people recommending to wait at least 12-18 months post birth before ttc again. However my doc just shrugged at me when I asked this question worth the 6 week appointment wait and said it's up to you really.... which I obviously know it is, but it just scared me when I read about increased risks in pregnancy for the baby? Thanks in advance

I conceived when DC2 was 7 months. I miscarried but don't let that put you off. Lots of women conceive very quickly within a few months following birth.

I thinks there's something to be said for waiting, but if you're older and want another child, go for it.

Before I had a caesarean the consultant said they advise not to get pregnant for 12-18 months to allow the scar to heal and muscles to gain strength back.

I had an EMCS with DD and was pregnant again 5 months' later. They agreed with me that a further c section would be the best way to give birth to DC2 due to risk of rupture. As it was, DS was a transverse unstable lie, so I'd have had a c section even if I'd wanted to try vaginally!

There are 15 months between my db and Me. Obviously my parents weren't worried about waiting.

Thanks all for the replies! I'm not in any rush for a reason other than wanting them close together. I have a 5 year gap between DB and I and I remember disliking him as a baby Confused... really don't want that happening. I'm an over thinker with everything and it just scared me when I read about the negative effects on mum and baby.

Just to add I didn't have a c section. I did have a bad 3rd degree tear that required surgery but nothing in terms of gap for 2nd baby was mentioned!!

I wouldn't try just yet. Give yourself longer to heal. If you ttc when your baby is a year old you will still hopefully have them close together.

If you want a positive story about a slightly bigger age gap, there's 2.5 years between my two (4&18months now) and they've adored each other from the start.

cowssheephens · 11/08/2017 23:07

We didn't see it an issue whatsoever. Asked the GP during my 6 week appointment and he didn't see any reason why we shouldn't try for No2. Un been known to us I was already pregnant!!

It's was tough at the start having two DCs under 1, but they have never known life without each other and are the best of friends.

I know two sisters who are exactly 11 months apart. The mum seems fine and the sisters are very close emotionally. The age gap you are looking at doesn't seem unreasonably close to me; I was not aware it would entail any risk to the baby. Seems like your doc is OK with it so I'd go ahead.
