Fertility MOT - worth it?

Has anyone had a fertility MOT?

DH and I were considering going for one where they scan my ovaries to assess your egg reserves, test his sperm count, and also test the levels of various hormones in my blood. The package we have found is at the London IVF and Genetics centre but there seem to be a lot around.

However, it is quite expensive - how helpful are they, and what info can they tell you? I had a MMC earlier in the year but haven't started TTC again yet. The was more to see if there were any problems which would either make it more difficult to get pregnant, or which might lead to another miscarriage.

Apologies, I don't have any answers for you but I'm interested to see the replies - I'm also considering an egg reserve count :)

I had one about 6 months before TTC as I had been on the pill for 15 years and was concerned it might have masked problems with my periods. My DP also had miscarriages with a previous partner and there was unspoken concern on his part that it might be a problem with his sperm as she had children with her ex. I went to the City Fertility clinic in London, it was listed at £290 but we got it at a time they were offering a discount for £200 for the two of us. It included everything you mention and they were very professional. I just found it really reassuring. We conceived my DS in September last year Smile

Sorry! I meant to say - for the scan, they talk you through what they are looking for as they are doing it and if they have concerns about your egg reserves or find cysts or anything they'll tell you straight away. You also get a printed report. For the blood test, they call you with the results after i think 4-5 days or so. The results of the semen analysis get emailed to you with a quick summary of whether it's normal or not. You also get a quick consultation with a doctor who will talk you through why you wanted to have the tests, any lifestyle or medical factors that might affect your fertility and what your options are if they do find issues. Also meant to say that if you just want to test you on your own the price is about £150 Smile

Thanks so much MujosMama - that sounds really reassuring. And also good to know that there are some cheaper packages around (the one we saw was more expensive but I will have a look at the clinic you went to as well). Part of me thought we should just start trying, but it would be good to have peace of mind or be forewarned about any potential problems.

Glad to be of help! I'm of the same mind as you that I wanted to be warned of any potential issues beforehand and set my expectations accordingly, so completely get it. Best of luck! This is the place I went to www.city-fertility.com
