Anyone get a PFP after 4 - 6 cycles?

We're on cycle 3 (12DPO) and just got another BFN.

Every piece of proper research I've read seems to say that around 30% conceive first month of trying, and 60% within 3 months. Anecdotally my friends have conceived within month 1 or 2 save for 2 couples who ended up down the IVF route - 1 successfully and 1 not.

I'm wondering if I need to start preparing mentally that this might not happen, or we may need additional help. It just doesn't seem like many people conceive from month 4 onwards.

I just discovered we're in just about the worst postcode for the IVF lottery too, and am feeling utterly heartbroken about it all right now.

Any positive stories of conceiving naturally after month 4? Please?

We conceived naturally IN cycle 4, so good luck! I'd been doing lots of exercise in cycles 1-3, cycle 4 I was on holiday and had a couple of boozy nights out and no exercise. We used pre-seed lube and I wore cosy socks and sat with my feet on a hot water bottle for most of the tww as I read that warm feet helps implantation. Hmm Not sure if any of that made a difference or if it was just luck, but I'm currently sat here feeding ds1! Good luck!

JaneBanks thank you! I'm really clinging to any positive stories at the moment. Interesting about the socks - I always have ice cold feet so I might give that a go!

Many many stories - just read through the threads here. With DD I conceived naturally in month 16 (cycle 10, because they were all over the place). We'd just had our first fertility appointment, I was due to have a HSG, and DH was booked in for an ultrasound!

This time round I conceived, briefly, in cycle 8 (turned out to be a chemical pregnancy).

physicskate · 03/08/2017 08:35

See that's funny because the research I've seen always said 80% within a year and 92% within 2 years!

My GP said 6 months was 'distinctly average.'

I've been ttc 16 months. 2 Chemicals in that time.... threads like this make me nervous...

They won't even do any tests till you've been trying for a year, right? All the figures I've read have been about % success rates within a year. Anecdotally, at least half of my friends were trying for a year before they succeeded: I know two people who got BFPs as they were going for further tests.

We had a bfp on cycle 4 or 5 (4 since I started temping properly) then I miscarried, and now I'm at the start of cycle 3 since that miscarriage. I feel like the stats are v unreliable, and someone has to be the slower side of the curve. With the miscarriage, I read there was a 90% chance of pregnancy continuing once a heartbeat was seen: sadly, not the case for us, though perhaps those stats only apply if heartbeat is seen at 12 weeks. ours was at 7.

All the other statistics: do they refer to people temping, who timed sex around ovulation, or people just seeing what happens? The amount of people who say 'oh we weren't really trying' when they were having unprotected sex always astonishes me; and makes me thing people measure different things. I really wouldn't worry yet. It's still very early days.

I got pg first month with my first, pg after dtd once but ended up a MMC and I'm now pg again cycle 4! This successful cycle I deleted my ovia app, sacked off the opks and started exercising.

Statically I've been very lucky but fully expected it to take 6 months or longer and wouldn't have worried if it hadn't happened quickly.

Good luck, try not to stress about it. Easier said than done i know, but helped for me x

I think it was cycle 4 for us. I ate a lot healthier that month which I think did help.

WineAndTiramisu · 03/08/2017 10:54

Most of my friends (all early 30's) have taken between 4-11 months so far, I'm on month 9 and starting to get concerned, but trying not to worry for a while longer!

Betsyboo87 · 03/08/2017 13:53

I've looked at the stats too and it seems to really vary from one site to another. I've read that it's a 20% chance each cycle so it really is luck of the draw.

I don't think you have anything to worry about going into cycle 4. We're 8 months in and probably 6 cycles due to dh travelling with work. I saw a gynae this week and she feels it's too early to start investigations. I was following a long standing thread for a while and a lot of the ladies who got their bfps had been TTC for 6+ months.

Try to relax - I know it's easier said than done!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I know I need to get a grip! It was just the aftermath of the BFN, combined with a lot of friends announcing pregnancies after 'just trying once' and having convinced myself that this would be the one. Onto the next try!

Cycle 5 - I was feeling much like you are OP so was hugely surprised by the BFP. DP and I had agreed no temping or OPKs for at least the first 6 months of ttc so the only extra thing I was doing was writing down AF dates each month.
I found that of all the stories I read/heard, people either seemed to conceive on cycle 1 of trying, cycle 12-15 (whilst waiting for initial fertility tests) or needed fertility treatment. You just don't hear about everybody else! Hang in there, for now I think you just have to keep on trying i'm afraid FlowersFlowers
