TTC #4 at 34. Likely to happen?

We've decided to try for baby #4 (kids aged 4, 7, 8). I'm 34 years old. I'm keen not to get my hopes up in case it doesn't happen ... but DH is of the opinion that 34 is still pretty young and it's likely to be fine.

Has anyone got experience of TTC at this age with / without previous kids? Other than timing intercourse sensibly, any hints or tips about how to approach it? I've been charting for more than a decade (for TTC and to avoid) so fairly sure I'm ovulating regularly ...

I'm 33 and not pregnant yet but 34 will be no problem at all! 44 perhaps your chances might have reduced but given you have 3 kids and are fertile I doubt 34 is anything like old enough for age related problems! Good luck!

Sluttybartfast · 26/07/2017 15:43

Why would you have any problems? You ovulate regularly and you're not even 35 yet! With 3 previous kids, it will probably be easier for you than for someone trying for their first at the age of 34.

Just have sex at the right time and see what happens!

Silversun83 · 26/07/2017 20:50

No-one can tell you for certain but I would say you stand a pretty good chance given your reproductive history.. FWIW, it took a year to conceive my DD at 31-32, am six weeks pregnant with second at 34.. Which took all of about two days..

TurquoiseDress · 26/07/2017 21:04

I conceived my first aged 34, gave birth at 35.

Had been taking the combined pill since the age of 19, stopped taking & had withdrawal bleed.

One episode of sex shortly after and I was pregnant!

You sound v clued up on your cycles, timings etc and have 3 already.
Chances are it'll all be fine, but nobody can answer how long it could take.

BottomleyPottsSpots · 27/07/2017 11:17

Thank you so much for your responses - they are helping talk some sense into me!
Before my first child I suffered 3 miscarriages within a year, and I suspect that this experience colours my expectations of trying to conceive - having had 3 healthy children afterwards I feel 'sure' that my luck won't hold although have no reason to believe this other than being slightly older.
Currently trying to wean off caffeine whilst waiting for my period to come :)

I'm also 34 and thinking of #4. Should ovulate in the next week so really need to make up my mind.

My age doesn't concern me, but at the same time I don't want to put it off any longer either.

Do you cut out caffeine completely? I've cut down to one cup of coffee and two cups of tea per day this week. I had been drinking up to 4 cups of coffee everyday. I'm not even sure if it interferes with fertility, but I'd be anxious in early pregnancy about those sort of things anyway

Needsomeflapjacks · 27/07/2017 19:00

I had a ds at 37 and a ds at 43. You have ages op!

BottomleyPottsSpots · 27/07/2017 20:43

Thanks @Needsome - that's very encouraging!

Oooh, that's exciting @Alcea - I didn't expect to find anyone also considering #4. Re: caffeine, it's mostly the miscarriage risk in early pregnancy that I'm concerned about, and easing back now will just make it less traumatic if I am lucky and conceive again. Please let me know what you decide re: trying vs not ...

I will!

I usually post/lurk on the larger families forum rather than conception as most here seem to be ttc #1 or #2.
Come over and join us Smile

BottomleyPottsSpots · 27/07/2017 21:56

Ah thanks @Alcea - I will pop over to have a look now...

@BottomleyPottsSpots I'm 16 weeks pregnant with #4...... I'm 33 years old, and found it no different xx

Mimilicious013 · 28/07/2017 10:42

Hie @bottomless, best of luck hun.l am 36 and was trying for #5 since l was 34.l have recently just got my wanted bfp after 2 years so it took a lot longer than I thought.

@alcea, the larger families forum seemto be quiet. what thread are you on?

Alcea · 28/07/2017 11:18

Congrats on the pregnancies!

Mimilicious, I only dip in and out and yes it is very quiet. I was posting on a thread about going from 3 to 4, but it's not very active either. I'm still not 100% sure myself yet, have a lot of worries about it so really need to discuss it properly with dh over the weekend.

I've spent the last few months reading through the entire board, usually when I'm falling asleep on my phone in bed at night. I must have every thread on it read by now Grin

Mimilicious013 · 28/07/2017 12:02

And I thought I was the only one who fell asleep on mumsnet lol🙈.how old are your dc if you don't mind me asking?

Good luck with making your mind

MaryShelley1818 · 28/07/2017 16:31

34 is very young! I'm 39 and 20wks pregnant with my first baby.
Good luck Smile

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 28/07/2017 17:33

I name-changed and posted on larger families ... but yes, seems a bit quiet (understandably given the lack of free time when folks have large families).

I'm 'going for it' after 3 years' deliberations. I now have a permanent job with great mat leave (although it is very much full time - approx 55 hours per week on average, and husband works even longer hours ... but I have always worked full time!) and I'm not getting any younger, so now's the time to see whether it's possible.

Alternating between excited to start 'trying' and absolutely terrified.

Chattycat78 · 30/07/2017 22:16

34 is still young!

I was pregnant at 34,35 and 36. At 36 it took 1 month. U have no reason to think it won't be fine. X

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 30/07/2017 22:55

Thanks @Chattycat78 - I've instructed my DH to hand me a grip every time I entirely needlessly fret about it xx
