Please help me out ladies I'm losing the will to live!
I had the depo at the start of january this year, and had heavy vaginal bleeding every day since. Should have stopped by the start of April as I didn't have another, but I'm still experiencing heavy blood every day and my partner and I desperately want a child! The doctor didn't inform me of these negative side affects. Can anyone tell me their experience with Depo or anyone had similar bleeding to my situation after stopping depo after just one shot? I'm 20y old and rather slim. It's not possible to get pregnant if I'm bleeding every day like this is it? This is affecting my sex life drastically also, any advice or experiences? Thanks

I was told it would more than likely stop my periods straightaway.
They did stop.completely.
So sorry you're having to go through this.

I was on the depo for 5yrs & had no bleeding. Then I stopped for a year, went back on for one shot course & bled the entire time, I completely understand how you're feeling. However, it wore off December 2016 & I had no further bleeding until a normal period in Feb, then nothing until June. It can mess your cycles up & frankly I think there needs to be more information given to women about this injection. I hope things settle for you soon.

Hey. I shared this in a another thread a while back too. I had the depo when I was 18 (1 shot only, I'm now 30). I bled every single day for 1 year solid. Second year I didn't bleed every day but I had a period every 2 weeks. In all took nearly 3 years for my cycle to return to normal. I'm not sure when my ovulation would have returned as I wasn't thinking about having children then.

I personally would never ever recommend the depo to anyone purely because of this but I know I'm in the smaller percentage of women who experience this side effect. I read into this before I did it but it was my only option as I didn't use it for contraceptive purposes but because I had very bad period's that used to result in me passing out a lot at uni so needed to stop them fully with a risk of daily spotting. Thankfully no pain for 3 years and no passing out.

The nurse warned me and my research told me that it would affect fertility in a temporary manner. And that effects can last up to a year, even though for me it was 3 years. (But confused as to why you didnt do any research on something that essentially stops your periods before choosing this method?)

I don't know if this help's, there are a lot of women who fell pregnant within a couple of months after the 3 months, but usually they never had this everyday bleeding side effect.

Hope you are among the very rare who manage to come through quickly enough and get the elusive BFP.

I'd suggest you seek help from your gp. Keep going back. Demand help. You could become anaemic. You may have to be a bit persistent, a bit forceful. This is not ok and don't take the answer that it is.

I'd think about going on the pill if it meant a cessation of bleeding. Ttc can wait. You're 20. You've got time. Your health is more important.
