Negative tests but no AF

I'm on my third cycle (after coming off the pill). The first was 28 days, the second was 34 days, and now I'm on day 36 of the third cycle with none of the usual "AF is coming" symptoms.

HPT have been negative but if AF doesn't arrive, at what point do I say 'okay, this can't be the pill extending my cycle indefinitely' and see a doctor to get a blood test...another week, two weeks?

Im in the same situation. My period this month is 14 days late. Did a test last week and negative and one again on Monday and negative.

Last month 11 days late, a month before that 21 days late and four months of no period before that.

Im thinking of waiting till next month and if its still late go to the drs as it would have been 7 months of unsettled periods after stopping the pill.

Hey @duckfeet do you keep a track of when you ovulated? If you know when you ovulated the time between ov and af should be the same as I understand it.

YoureNotASausage · 23/06/2017 09:24

This is actually very common and I wouldn't be worrying for many more months. I have a very regular cycle and got pregnant first try four times but even so, in the last 10 yrs I completely skipped a period on two occasions. Then it came as normal the following month.

Well AF came today :(

I have only been tracking using Ovia but the predicted ovulation window is shifting forwards as my cycle gets a few days longer every month, so I expect I keep missing my window.

What's the best way to track ovulation?

There are a couple of options @duckfeet2 you can track using your basal body temperature. You take your temperature as son as you wake up, at the same time every morning and a spike in temp will indicate ovulation. Alternatively buy a load of ovulation test strips, you can get fairly cheap ones and test every day during the time when you believe you should be ovulating, you should be able to pin down ovulation that way. Hope that helps.

This has happened to me too, second cycle been off the pill 4 months and this month I totally missed my period, had some spotting and cramps but nothing else. Two weeks later and a negative test so I guess my body is still adjusting post pill :/ it's meant to be normal but doesn't stop you from worrying somethings wrong.

Littleonek · 25/06/2017 14:08

Good to know other people have this! Im 15 days late this month, so no idea when im meant to try again. I had four months of no period, first month I had a period I was 21 days late, second time 14 days late now nothing. Had the cramps last week just feel bloated and spotty atm.

Just been to the drs for my non existent periods after the last 6 months.

Got a blood test booked with the nurse on monday morning. She will discuss the results with me a week later. She said it takes 18 months for yr periods to go full back to normal.

YoureNotASausage · 30/06/2017 09:58

I'm sorry Little, but I think that nurse is talking shit. The pill does not affect your period. The only thing it does is regulate your cycle so if your cycle is odd or there are ovulation issues, the pill hides that as it gives you a regulated system when you otherwise would not necessarily have one. It does not 'build up in your system and take 18months to wear off'. What happens is that people's cycles and fertility changes over time but as they are taking the pill, they can't see those changes till they stop. Some people take it 10-15yrs and then blame it for different cycles than they had before they took it many years ago but it's them that have changed, not the pill that changed them.

This is from my sister who is a contraceptive specialist GP.

Thats not what I have been told by research and speaking to people I know have had a baby.

Two of my went on the pill for less than a year but took them 6 months for their periods to return and before that she was normal. And drs said it was all down to the pill.

If you google it loads of people say how bad the pills affects their periods returning with no issues with ovulating when the drs looked into it.

I had a blood test done last year a few months before stopping my pill and hormone levels etc were all normal.

I will see what they show this time as it could have changed.
