Ttc after 8 years on the Depo injection

Me and my fiancé are trying to conceive! We decided at the start of the year, and my last Depo injection ran out in March. I'd had one period in a year before then, and then this year I bled from 8th March to 8th April and have had nothing since then. Weirdly it stopped straight after an internal exam? Thinking of buying shares in pregnancy tests as I've spent a small fortune on the things. My ovulation tests (the strips from Amazon) aren't ever showing anything 😩
I know that it can take 18 months to go back to normal, but I have no normal! With endometriosis I used to bleed for 3 weeks or more a month or anything up to 8 weeks. I've got a gorgeous 9 year old already. Has anyone got any stories that might give me hope?

Sorry I've got no help with TTC but you were on depo for 8 years? Shock

My healthcare professionals told me I had to come off after 2 years as it causes bone density issues after too long.

I tried depo about 13 years ago. 3 years before I met my now hubby. After the first and only shot it took until after I met him for me to get regular periods.

It really depends on your body. Where it took me 3 years just to get regular AF, it took my best friend a couple of months to not only have her period come back to normal but to also fall unexpectedly pregnant....and she had a fibroid too!

8 years is really long to be on the Depo. After baby (fingers crossed it happen's soon for you), I would highly recommend using a different method of contraception.

Xx

Yeah I know it's ages to be on it! They recommended it as the only way to lessen the effects of my endometriosis (did for a while) and because I've got epilepsy it's apparently proven to help, but I've noticed no difference. I've taken folic acid and b12 for the whole time but I worry about the effects from it. They told me 3 years but still encouraged me to have it done every 3 months

I was on depo for 4 years. Came off it and conceived in 7 weeks. Then back on it and took 17 months to conceive dc2 (but only 10 months after stopping breastfeeding and periods returning so could have been that) then back on it and conceived dc3 in 5 months.

So basically I've been on and off depo 4 times in 6 years and in that time have had 3 babies! Grin

That's crazy, but I do think that hormonal contraceptives are given very freely without much information on just how long it can affect you for. As for your friend that's a glimmer of hope!
I hate not knowing what my body is doing! It's hard enough when my periods were irregular before all this 😒 I've not had a cramp, spot, nothing. Just occasionally sore boobs. Thank you for replying, we're keeping ttc a secret until it happens so I feel a bit alone in it all
