Hi, can anyone at this age share how long it took them to conceive?

It has been 10 years since I was last pregnant and I not sure if it will take me longer this time around.

OP posts:
fusspot66 · 29/03/2017 13:25

3 months at 39, 1 month at 43.

user1471496670 · 29/03/2017 13:27

I'm 38 (almost 39) and on my 6th cycle ttc #1 and starting to feel really anxious about it so will be interested in the replies :)

HeadDreamer · 29/03/2017 13:31

Nearly 2 years, but with two losses. But I got pregnant within 1-2 months at 35. It does feel my fertility went off a cliff in my late 30s.

Salmonpinkcords · 29/03/2017 13:36

First month but resulted in miscarriage. Conceived again in first month after miscarriage.
I conceived first month with both my children in early thirties so no noticeable difference.

fusspot66 · 29/03/2017 14:10

I didn't intend to be all smug in.my first post but as you can see, there's no way of knowing till you try.

NaturWilde · 29/03/2017 14:26

First month at 38. Did 3 months of vitamins, Inositol, and cycle tracking beforehand:-)

stuckinny · 29/03/2017 14:27

It's been 10 years between pregnancies for me too. It took about 4 months this time.

lisara79 · 29/03/2017 14:50

Thanks for posting this... I'm 37 (very nearly 38) and ttc #1... we haven't been trying that long but my age does worry me.

Cuppaqueen · 29/03/2017 15:05

I'm also 37 and was astonished to get pregnant within 2 months - first time TTC. Currently 37+1 weeks pregnant! So it can happen sooner than you think - like a pp said, everyone is different.

farfarawayfromhome · 29/03/2017 15:11

First month, in fact 11days after my could was removed!

farfarawayfromhome · 29/03/2017 15:11

COIL!!

danTDM · 29/03/2017 15:18

Pregnant within a month at 37. Menopause finished by 44 (started at 42)

Tortycat · 29/03/2017 15:22

3 months at 38 (though 2 previous m/c so 1 year ttc overall). Then pregnant without having had a period when dc was 10 months (I was 39 - sadly another m/c). Then 3 months for dc2 at 40. In my experience staying pregnant was harder than getting pregnant

angelinheaven · 29/03/2017 16:38

3 months at 38 nearly 39 , but no different than when I was in my twenties

NennyNooNoo · 29/03/2017 16:49

15 months at 30, 12 months at 33, 2 or 3 months at 36, and 1 month at 40. I got more fertile as I got older! Or more accurately, I got better at monitoring my cycles. Also, my cycles became shorter and more regular as I got older.

Hi OP

I'm 38- will be 39 over the summer- and we have been trying since July last year since my MMC with baby no.2
No hint of pregnancy since then.

Fell pregnant almost exactly 1 year ago at the age of 37- this was straight after stopping the pill, CD14 after withdrawal bleed, we had sex the ONE time that month.

Previously, fell pregnant aged 34- exactly same scenario, stopped the pill, had withdrawal bleed then ONE episode of unprotected sex & BFP when I tested many many weeks later thinking my was period just messed up after taking the combined pill for 15 years!

That resulted in our happy & healthy 3 year old.

I have to admit I'm losing hope at the moment.
Never had so much unprotected sex in my whole life and still not bloody pregnant!!

I think it's payback for 2 easy conceptions which involved almost no trying at all Sad

So, overall, I'm a 38 year old with no previous fertility problems whatsoever, now on cycle 9 of trying for baby no.2- and losing the will & hope!

Good luck OP

lisara79 · 29/03/2017 21:15

Dont loose hope turquoise... have you spoken to a doctor? They suggest after 6 months of trying when you're over 35... prob no access to much treatment but could have diagnostic tests maybe... I have friends with no fertility problems who took over a year to conceive in their twenties... sometimes it just takes longer x

TurquoiseDress · 30/03/2017 00:05

Hi
Yes I went to see my GP after about 5 months and had thyroid checked, and FSH was normal (think around 6.8 or something).

Went back a few weeks ago & going to have day 21 progesterone checked soon.

OH is going to do a sperm sample (when he gets round to making an appointment!)

In a way though, there's not much that could be done apart from investigations etc.

If we needed any sort of intervention, e.g. IVF we most certainly wouldn't be able to afford it

TurquoiseDress · 30/03/2017 00:09

Lisara
I feel a bit of a fraud for complaining about it taking more than 6 months!

It's 'normal' to take up to 12 months and I've got friends/colleagues who took a year or two to conceive even before they'd hit early thirties.

I think I'm just impatient!
And everything around me seems to remind of the loss last summer- friends & acquaintances who have given birth this month, they were conceiving their pregnancies while I was finding out mine had all gone wrong.

It just feels so unfair (feeling sorry for myself)

bigcakes · 30/03/2017 09:06

I've been trying for 3 months so far for my second and I'm 36. Took me three months to conceive my son when I was 30. I think it can be so difficult to try and predict what will happen and very easy to fall into obsessing and getting stressed with it. I'm trying to avoid the latter!

FlipKat · 30/03/2017 09:13

Thanks for posting this thread! It's great to hear stories of people in late 30s and early 40s conceiving pretty quickly - congratulations :-)

I'm TTC#1 at 38, DP is 48. I'm only cycle 2 off the pill but finding it hard not to get anxious. I've been really worried it's not going to happen for me.

floatingfrog · 30/03/2017 09:18

6 months.

BipBippadotta · 30/03/2017 09:39

Started trying at 34; it's taken me 6 years, 5 miscarriages, a stillbirth and a fuck ton of fertility treatment.

Chattycat78 · 30/03/2017 14:32

1 year and ivf for ds1- age 35.

1 month and no ivf for ds2- age 36Hmm. Go figure. There is no logic and lots of luck involved, although yes, "technically" as you get older it should be harder and take longer as your eggs aren't as good.

bigcakes · 18/04/2017 09:12

I just wanted to thank everyone for posting in this thread - it has really helped to calm my nerves about my chances of conceiving. Thank you!
