Taken morning after pill - when is my next "real" period?

I took the MAP on 19th Feb having had unprotected sex on 18th Feb (day 12 of cycle) then had P on 26th Feb, early as should have been on 7th March. Is this a real period or should I expect another in a few days? Does anyone know what impact this will have on my cycle? Came off the pill last August to give myself time to get body in order before TTC (was told it woul take 12 months which I now know isn't strictly true!) but panicked after having unprotected sex as not quite ready, plus haven't being taking folic acid for 3 months. Really annoyed with myself as period had just started to get into regular 28 day cycles so I could predict when I would probably be fertile and now I've messed it all up - help!

You should normally get your next period approximately when it was expected despite taking MAP. If you had what seemed like a normal period on 26th it probably was your period, just come a bit early. If you want to be really confident, why not take a pregancy test a sometime next week after your period was supposed to be due. You shouldn't have messed up your cycle much just by taking MAP once. And don't panic about the folic acid thing if it turns out you are pregnant. If you have a healthy diet and you're taking it now you will be fine. Good luck.

thanks Crumpets. If it was my proper P then should I count my normal cycle from then, ie 26 was day 1?

Yes, but if you possibly can I would try and forget about dates and go with the flow, if you'll pardon the pun!

do you think it's easier to conceive that way? I thought you had to aim for day 14 otherwise you didn't have much chance? I probably won't start properly trying until May or June but being very sad and doing those fertility tests to show the dates for the rest of the year when i could conceive. Waste of time?

In my experience the more relaxed you are the better for conceiving, that's why you hear so many stories about people stopping trying, getting drunk and suddenly getting pregnant or getting on the IVF waiting list after ages of trying then falling pregnant naturally. Also it's got to be better for your sex life if it's spontaneous. If your cycle is regular and you're a healthy weight there's no reason to panic.

ok, thanks so much for the advice. If only you knew when it would happen! It it happened straight away it'd almost be too soon but if we don't conceive after a few years we'll be wishing we tried sooner! Suppose you have to be prepared for both eventualities.

Absolutely - I assumed it would take me ages (I guess you spend such a long time trying not to get pregnant it's hard to turn you mind around) but it took a month after taking out arm implant device I had. Best of luck with it all - I'll keep a look out for you!
