Just wondering if anyone out there has had a successful pregnancy at aged 47 or above? Looking for positivity not judgement - thank you

Early ! Oops ! Not sadly. Apologies for autocorrect I hadn't spotted 😬

Neome · 28/02/2017 21:02

I had a successful pregnancy with donated egg (lost ovary + several years due to cancer scare) giving birth at 49. I had a naturally conceived child when younger and feel equally attached to both children.

Northernlurker · 28/02/2017 21:35

If you've been having unprotected sex for the last two years and not carried a sustained pregnancy I think you need to accept this very probably isn't going to happen for you. Doesn't matter who else has had a baby at 49. For you, your body is not co-operating unfortunately.

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 28/02/2017 21:37

I had ds at 43 but mc last year at 45 (also had 3 chemicals last year previously to mc) assume no more dc for me now unfortunately.

My grandfather was a miracle child when he was born in 1920! His parents met and married late in life - mother in her 40s, father in his late 50s. Back then that was ancient. Then they had 3 healthy sons in a row - my grandfather when mother was 44 and his two brothers 1 and 3 years later, so she must have been 45 and 47. It was a total surprise and all 3 boys were completely doted upon. And that is a long time ago before modern medicine!

I know of a woman who had three children in three ish years, youngest when she was about 48/49. She seems quite fit and active and obviously she coped ok if she had three in a row.

I have been thinking a lot about this too ( and thus brought up this old thread in a search) . I am 45 and have one 8 year old. I lately fid myself wanting a second child in some ways-- but I am not sure. It is even harder for me because I have been sick with chronic lyme disease in a pretty bad way since I was 40. This is one of the reasons I didnt have a second child earlier. I am still sick but wokring on a new treatment and I keep thinking that if it works and I am healthy that I could have one more child. My older sister had her 6th child at age 46. And the child is a totally healthy and perfect three year old now. I have dreams often about having a second child. I just don't know! My husband is younger than I am by 8 years. Because of my illness I am already tired a lot so it would really have to only be if I get healthy which I of course hope to! I mostly think it is my body getting older and saying it is now or never- but for sure some part of me wants another baby. I do worry about the possible abnormalities risk of having a baby at this age, ad also how my body would handle the pregnancy and birth. My pregnancy with my son was super easy but I was in a really fit and healthy state then.

Hi flower- sorry to hear you’ve been so poorly with Lyme. Your new treatment sounds promising- fingers crossed for a full recovery. Just also wanted to add that i understood your feelings about another baby in your 40s. I’m nearing 43 and ttc #3. Come and join us on the over 40sttc thread if you do decide to go ahead and try. You’ll get loads of encouragement there.

Angusthewestie · 15/01/2019 11:15

Just had a chemical pregnancy which ended on Saturday. I’m 48 in March. Had one at 46 too. Not possible for me

fluffy71 · 26/01/2019 23:09

I had a very unexpected pregnancy at 46 and had my baby 3 months after my 47th birthday. He's now 6months old

MATTSMAMMA · 27/01/2019 13:20

hi op
i started a thread somewhere asking who the oldest person people knew to have a healthy baby - it seems its absolutely possible at 47!

i got pg at 44 but the baby had a severe disability and as time went on it became clear it would not have been kind to have her. (i think her quality of life would not have been good and she would have needed care well into adulthood and of course - i wouldnt always be there)

i am almost 47 and i am still trying. i have regular periods. i dont know why i havent managed to get pg again but i was recently diagnosed with very low folate and iron levels and high blood sugar so im hoping when those things are sorted - well who knows - i remain optimistic and i have a "if it happens it happens" attitude to it now.

good luck x

fluffy71 · 28/01/2019 15:48

Yes I will post on that thread, if it gives others hope. @rytonsister good luck, really hope it works out for you. So sorry to hear about your baby girl, that must have been devastating for you. I think you have the right attitude

fluffy71 · 28/01/2019 15:51

By the way when I was having my antenatal care the midwives told me I wasnt as unusual as I thought and saw quite a few women may age or slightly younger. My doctor told me its alot more common than you think due to better nutrition but most ladies this age rend to terminate.

rytonsister · 28/01/2019 16:16

my specialist said that to me as well fluffy he said he hoped i would try again and i wasnt that unusual.

saying that it was over 2 years ago now so may be a little more unusual now considering im 47 in a month.

im hoping the lack of iron/folates might have had something to do with not getting pg again. i caught within 2 months of trying at 44.
since then - nothing .

fluffy71 · 28/01/2019 20:43

@rytonsister, presumably you are supplementing now? Know it sounds daft but in the two years before I unexpectedly got pregnant I was taking q10 supplements and sprinkling ground nuts with added q10 in it, (made by Linwoods) on to my yogurt in the mornings as I had heard it helps with migraines as I'd just started getting really bad ones again, the first time this occurred was when I was having babies the first time round, so I presumed it was hormonal (possibly the menopause). I've since read that q10's good for egg quality so this may have helped me.

rytonsister · 28/01/2019 20:51

That's interesting fluffy....I will get some q10, what doses were you taking?

I'm on folates and iron but didn't know about q10....just had a google and found amazon sell them

SparrowSG · 29/01/2019 10:00

@rytonsister if you pop over to the 40+ TTC thread I mentioned above you will see lots of advice about supplements for TTC including CQ10, vits B/D etc Smile

rytonsister · 29/01/2019 11:00

Ok thanks sparrow , I'd just sort of stopped looking at those threads really - it seems so unlikely at my age.

ckc45d10 · 29/01/2019 18:04

Yes, for CoQ10, about 100 to 600 mg per day is what is studied in the research. However, check with your doctor on dosage. In addition, a water and fat-soluble form absorbs better.

fluffy71 · 29/01/2019 22:04

I was taking bog standard Holland and Barretts own. Can't remember exact dose but about 6 small tablets a day. Mind you there are alot more knowledgeable people on here than me.

rytonsister · 29/01/2019 22:23

fluffy was it ubiquinol or CQ10? im so bloody confused now....

ckc45d10 · 30/01/2019 17:47

Ubiquinol is the reduced, active form compared to CoQ10. Some believe that ubiquinol may be more effective at a lower dosage.
