Can OV tests reveal pregnancy or is it a myth?

Hi Ladies I need some help and advice please...
I am using the clearblue monitor for the first time this month.. it worked and i got a peak day on day 14...
I'm now on day 29..my cycles always used to be spot on 28/29 days - the last few months they have stretched to 33 days at tmes.
So I don't want to waste the one pg test I have in the house...someone once told me that OV tests often show a positive test when you're pg...in the clear blue ones which lines would show this..please don't say first or second line cos i won't know which way to look at it? Also does anyone know if it's true at all?

Thanks and good luck everyone!!

If you go to www.peeonastick.com (I think that's the address but you can do a google search if not!) it tells you everything you could ever wish to know about pg and ov tests.

It explains why an OPK works as a HPT as well which I found interesting.....

HTH.

thanks coggy - it looks very interesting, but quite hard to get my head around at the mo with my 20 month old poking the screen too!! Anyone know exactly what i should be looking for on an clearblue monitor stick to warrant wasting a pg test...?

Coggy i will definitely revisit that site later - thanks.

OV tests are supposed to measure the level of LH hormone.

These kits actually work on two misleading principles; namely that a rise in LH is immediately followed by ovulation and that women only have one rise in LH every month. Both of these are not true.

You've had a rise in LH but this may not be followed by ovulation. A woman can easily have more than one LH rise per month.

Ovulation is not an exact science and ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

Personally speaking only I would only use a pg test if you were around a week late.

If your cycles continue to lengthen I would look into having a blood test done to see what your hormones are like. This would give an accurate picture and this is far more reliable overall than opk's.

thanks attila...now i feel completely depressed about the £100 i spent on my cb monitor and the fact i thought that meant in was def ovulating.....doom and gloom now...

Don't want you to have doom and gloom but these kits are not without their problems.

I would get a blood test done by your GP - the monitor may be right after all. You'll have a far clearer idea then.

It would be a good idea to see what your LH and FSH levels are like anyway. Ideally these levels should be the same or very close to being the same. These two hormones play a crucial role in the ovulation process and if thse two are awry then ovulation will be as well.

Your cycles are still within what could be seen as regular i.e between 21 and 35 days OR with less than 4 days of variation from month to month. If they continue to lengthen beyond 33 days I would seek some medical advice.
