is there a site that compares the success rates of clinics against each other? At moment I'm on HFEA website but have to go into each clinic's website separately

Where abouts are you kittyb? Are you not able to 'google' it as they say?

lou33 · 30/06/2004 16:43

Delgirl, is today the day?

DelGirl · 30/06/2004 16:45

Lou - just started sniffing today 'tis all. D Day will be in about 3/4 weeks heaven help me.

DelGirl · 30/06/2004 16:46

sorry, realised that may not make sense - hormone drugs you have to sniff. mmm just lovely! not.

ladymuck · 30/06/2004 16:53

This one has the 2000 data as a league table, but not sure whether it is the all age data or not (usually makes quite a difference...).

Bakedbean · 30/06/2004 16:53

Hi Delgel - just had to write to give you a bit of encouragement. I am 12 weeks today - successful pregnancy after first attempt at IVF! I feel so much for you. I actually got through both the sniffing and injections fine - just a bit moodier than usual! I was told not to plan to do too much during that time, but to be honest, I just wanted to act as much as normal as possible and did really, with the exception of not drinking! The two weeks waiting before I did a test were honestly the worst part of the whole procedure.....I would recommend anyone doing it. I've got everything crossed for you. Let me know how you're getting on!

ladymuck · 30/06/2004 16:54

Good luck Delgirl - which clinic are you with?

DelGirl · 30/06/2004 16:58

Thanks bakedbean and ladymuck - this is actually my 5th go! Last 2 ended in m/c sadly. I go to the Winterbourne in Dorchester though have all my bloods/scans at Bournemouth. They're fairly high in the league table but their bedside manner isn't too great tbh. Late dh sperm stored there so don't have much option to go elsewhere. Still, in the scheme of things I can put up with it.

DelGirl · 30/06/2004 16:59

oh sorry bakedbean, meant to congratulate you. Congratulations

Bakedbean · 30/06/2004 17:09

Thanks Delgirl - good luck - I really hope it works out for you this time around

kittyb · 02/07/2004 01:20

ladymuck, that is a really interesting site. Of course you always have to look behind the statistics, but even so the difference in "take home baby" rates is frightening. It will make it much easier to look into though, so thanks for that. Delgirl, have everything crossed for you - good luck.

Some clinics only take on 'sure fire' cases (I know there is no such thing, but you know what I mean). Young women, women with no obvious problems, women who have other children etc. By refusing women over 35 etc you can make your figures look better. From looking into the fertility business, I think it's a minefield but obviously some places do have better procedures than others.

Portree · 07/07/2004 12:53

Kitty, the best way to get the most up to date stats is by contacting the clinics directly. Most clinics should give you top-line stats on the phone and follow it up with the bumpf. Are you in London? If so, ARGC and UCH are in the top performers but you may not know that purely by looking at the HEFA site. If you are trying to make a decision based on stats then 2000 is far too out of date, IMO. A clinic just needs to change their lab and their success rate can increase really quickly, get a different embryologist etc. By the time the data is sent to the HEFA, it can be out of date. If you have very specific fertility issues then some clinics are better than others, some more pioneering. EG, ARGC embrace the immune side of things. A good place to find out more is at ivfconnections.com where they have a UK board. You can find it here

ladymuck · 07/07/2004 13:01

Yes, things change at clinics all the time, and it is worth checkiing the continuity of the embryologists in particular. I seem to remember when researching that there was also a significant difference in cost as well (you have to do your own calculations of the average cost per take-home baby). ARGC must still top the charts even though they have a high number of older women, but they are alos one of the most expensive. But the other significant facter is that they still perform a high percentage of 3-embryo transfers...

Glad I did the research though as where I ended up had a success rate twice that of the most local unit.

nannyjayne · 11/07/2004 20:13

I have just had 2 embryos implanted mine was donor ivf and I would reccomend it. I think that it is hard finding a unit that you like and trust and my dr suggested the Lister hospital in London. It has the highest results and does a lot of research as well.

Good luck to anyone who is in the waiting time.

DelGirl · 11/07/2004 20:15

ooh, fingers crossed for you nannyjayne x

nannyjayne · 12/07/2004 13:53

Thank you it already seems like 2 weeks. I am experiencing some period pains so I am a bit concerned has anyone else had this? Is anyone else having there 2 week wait?

kittyb · 18/07/2004 08:11
