Temping

Hi, Can someone please explain temping- we have just started TTC, I am still waiting for AF but not feeling lucky. But next month I really want to take it seriously (ltd time with DH to DTD around every other day all month)
How should I do it? When should I do it, where do you get your charts from? What should I be looking for? any other details..

Any help will be gratefully received as so many of you seem very knowledgeable.

TIA

Temping will only tell you after you have ovulated, three days after to be precise. By which point you're too late. If you want to know when you are fertile then you are best off with ovulation tests. The Clear Blue fertility monitor is remarkably accurate.

So will that tell me the 3 days prior to ovulating as I don't want to miss the mark.

Hello Walsh, Temping will only tell you that you've ovulated after you have ovulated. I do it because I have PCOS so just puts my mind at ease that i actually ovulate at all. Some ladies use opks to predict their fertile window which would include the lead up to ovulation but only temping will tell you that you definitely did. Hope that helps Smile

Very useful, thank you HollyMay

I've just started temping to confirm I am actually ovulating too. I've ordered a load of opks from Amazon, when do you actually start -peeing on- using them?

I'm not sure about some of the info above. Your temp goes up the day you ovulate. So while one cycle of temping isn't helpful, once you temp for avfew cycles you see a pattern and can reliably identify your fertile period. Certainly the only reliable day.

I'd say download Kindara, and day 1 of next cycle start temping with a proper BBT thermometer. This one is great. Or they also do a pack with thermometer, 10 OPKs and 10 HPTs.

And read this! as it explains it all, though Kindara community and info pages also great.

*only reliably way, not day!

newtoday your temp goes up the day after ovulation. Some women (me included) actually get a dip on the day due to an oestrogen surge. You can only conform that rise in temp is related to ovulation after you have had three days of elevated temps.
While several cycles of temping will give you a pattern for when you ovulate, if you stop you're on to a guessing game. My cycle fluctuates. Stress and flying make me ovulate late.
Walsh nothing will tell you three days before you ovulate. Cheap ovulation tests show positive for me two days before ovulation. The Clear Blue tells me two days before that I am fertile and then on the day of ovulation it tells me. Every one is different but I would say the Clear Blue gives you the best advance warning.

Ah ok that's your reference to there days - thank you! Temping for years and always learning!

Newtoday · 14/12/2016 11:29

*to three days!

I'm aware that the temp goes up to show you have ovulated. And mine is pretty much like clockwork - remains up for rest of the LP.

After a few cycles you can predict the "fertile days" and either abstain/use contraception or DTD lots until you see that temp rise.
