Can it be a false positive?

Hello! I'm new to all this! I need some advice as I've never had children before and I'm clueless lol.
Basically I'm due on my period in 3 days. I got all impatient and used a clear blue digital pregnancy test and it came back 1-2 weeks! I tried another one about 3 hours later after the tears settled and the shakes. The second one also came back the same! Is it possible to have a false positive as it seems early on to detect surely? If not then the excitement and jumping up and down can start! :) xx

I don't think false positives are possible? Sounds like you're pregnant, congratulations :)

Yes! Pregnancy tests have never failed me yet. Within a week or 2 you'll probably feel like you've been hit by the exhaustion bus Wink so if you're symptom free atm enjoy it.

CmereTilliTellYa · 08/12/2016 15:05

Nope Its fairly certain you are pregnant - false negatives yes possible, false positives no- the hormone has to be present to be detected. Those digitals are less sensitive than some of the strip tests so a decent level of the hormone has to be there to be picked up. With two tests I think it's a definite for you.

CmereTilliTellYa · 08/12/2016 15:06

Congratulations by the way. I vividly remember the first time I had a positive pregnancy test and the mix of emotions that came with it. Smile

Doctors won't re-confirm if you've taken a clear blue. Speak with your local midwife team to get on their books and enjoy this time before your first appointment!! Congratulations!!
How long have you been TTC for?

Cmh1592 · 08/12/2016 19:30

Ahhh ok! That's good to know. I literally haven't the foggiest about what to do next lol! We've been trying for about 4 months. Every month I'd feel down when period came along. But now this is happened and it's for real I'm in shock! ShockShock thank you everyone for the congratulations. Still hasn't sunk it xx

Congratulations cmh.

I'm not very far infront of you. I found out on Saturday and was 1-2. If you haven't done so already, make sure you take Folic Acid & Vitamin D asap everyday until 12 weeks.

Xxx

Cmh1592 · 09/12/2016 09:40

Aww huge congratulations...what a lovely Christmas prezzie :)

LittleFox10 · 09/12/2016 13:24

Yes first baby , although second pregnancy. I miscarried at 17 weeks two years ago.

I'm hoping this will be a healthy pregnancy. I have an early scan booked for 19th December, so hopefully everything is good. Feeling sick 24/7 so hoping it's a sign that everything is progressing as it should.

Doctors also booked for 23rd!

Exciting Grin

Cmh1592 · 09/12/2016 13:32

Aww that's horrible! SadI hope you're all ok now though! The thing is I don't feel any different lol I'm guessing it will take a few more weeks? I have no idea. But I guess I felt different enough to do a test.

I hope the scan goes as perfect as it can for you. Very happy for you! Xxx

Ohh and also. When do I actually get in contact with GP/midwife? I sound so silly and stupid but haven't got the foggiest xx

OP posts:
LittleFox10 · 09/12/2016 19:27

I booked my doctors today and they can't see me until 23rd Dec, but the receptionist said as long as I see the midwife before 10 weeks then it's fine. I hope this helps a little for you. You can book with the doctor now then wait for the midwife in a few weeks. Sickness has been my biggest change, although not physically sick, just feeling it all day. I've had a few pains today which I'm worried about but trying not too as I haven't had any blood.

Can't wait for my scan!! Xxx

HungryHorace · 09/12/2016 22:43

Some places you refer straight to the midwives who'll send you a booking appt. In other places you have to see your GP / practice nurse first who then refer you on. Call your surgery and ask the process, sooner rather than later so you're in the system in good time.

Cmh1592 · 11/12/2016 16:23

Thank you all so much for your positive and lovely support and help! I've read somewhere that the clear blue tests say 1-2 you're actually a week ahead? Is that correct? I'm going to speak with my GP tomorrow and try and get an appointment. Just hope it's not too early to do so SmileFlowers xx

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 11/12/2016 16:41

You're 2 weeks' ahead (assuming OV on or around CD14) as the tests are weeks since conception not weeks since period. Obviously with a longer cycle you'd be a bit more pregnant.

HungryHorace · 11/12/2016 16:42

Don't ask for an appointment, tell them you're newly-pregnant and ask whatvthe midwife referral process is. You may avoid seeing a GP altogether.
