Hello people!

Hubby had a sperm test, we're trying to conceive.
Could anyone comment on this data?

Semen amount 6.8(ml)
Ph 7.5
forward motility 65%
sperm count 476 million
sperm concentration 70 million
normal morphology sperm 6%

Thank You!

No idea but we're getting ours back this week so will compare!

user1480957837 · 05/12/2016 17:32

Good luck!

I'm having trouble interpreting the values...

Thanks!

Was this through the GP or clinic?

Alibaba2 · 05/12/2016 17:48

Oh, and how long did it take to get results? Ours are saying 2 weeks but that seems like ages. Surely they don't freeze them and have to test them on the day?!

user1480957837 · 05/12/2016 17:49

clinic

2 weeks seems a long time for the results, maybe their using a different method. Hubby's test was the sperm FISH analysis and results were out in a couple of hours.

All looks perfectly fine to me. Did the doctor not go through the results with you?

user1480957837 · 05/12/2016 18:20

doctor gave appointment for a week later and I was too anxious to wait for it

Ours took 7 weeks to come back, so a fortnight is nothing.

Those results look high in all the right areas to me.

CautionHotSurface · 05/12/2016 18:23

So 35% are 'swimming in the wrong direction' as Ben Elton would say ;)

user1480957837 · 05/12/2016 18:37

@VivienneWestwoodsKnickers
7 weeks! Shock
the morphology seems low but I don't know how it interacts with the other values. thanks for your comment

@CautionHotSurfac
that was funny Grin

Definitely no need to be anxious with those results. They're excellent.

user1480957837 · 05/12/2016 18:44

@delilahbucket
thanks for the reassurance

They are great results. Me and ex partner conceived our daughter with only 96 million sperm and a morphology of 4%. They say that a morphology of between 2-9% is good enough to conceive

user1480957837 · 06/12/2016 08:49

@Andysgirl15

Thanks so much for the info. I hope your daughter is doing fine

total sperm count (million/ejaculation): 476.0

Is the result thousand or million?

I just found this online if it's helpful:

The results of semen analysis conducted as part of an initial assessment should be compared with the following World Health Organization reference values[2]:

semen volume: 1.5 ml or more

pH: 7.2 or more

sperm concentration: 15 million spermatozoa per ml or more

total sperm number: 39 million spermatozoa per ejaculate or more

total motility (percentage of progressive motility and non-progressive motility): 40% or more motile or 32% or more with progressive motility

vitality: 58% or more live spermatozoa

sperm morphology (percentage of normal forms): 4% or more. [2004, amended 2013]

MishyBakes · 06/12/2016 19:20

Hope you don't mind if I join this thread user! We had the results of DH's sperm analysis today, and I'd really appreciate some advice!

The only parameter that was flagged up as abnormal was viscosity - which is increased. Other values are

Volume: 3.8ml
Sperm motility: 50%
Total Progressive: 46%
Non progressive: 4%
Immotile: 50%
Sperm count: 159 x 10^6
Sperm density: 42 x 10^6/ml
Morphology: 4.5% normal 95.5% abnormal

I'm a little worried that the morphology is on the low side of "normal" values, and added to the increased viscosity may be contributing to our inability to conceive. I'm still waiting for my blood results and to have a scan, so the problem may lie mostly with me. I'm know I'm overthinking and worrying too much, so any reassurance would be greatly appreciated!

Alibaba2 · 06/12/2016 20:35

It sounds like morphology should be 4% or more, if you look at my post before yours..,

MishyBakes · 06/12/2016 20:48

I did read your earlier post and it's very helpful. Also checked my embryology textbook, which also helped. I understand it's within the normal range, but it's in the lower quartile of normal. I'm concerned in case coupled with the viscosity this causes a problem. Chances are I'm worrying about nothing.

Good luck with your results btw. With my GP, if your results are abnormal you will find out sooner (the review and contact with patient is prioritised) whereas normal results may take a bit longer. It might be worth contacting the surgery directly and asking if the medical secretary can send the results to you?

Alibaba2 · 06/12/2016 21:12

Thank you, that's a good idea. I might try that...

MissMagpie · 07/12/2016 07:49

If it offers any reassurance two years ago my husband had a test and his morphology was 2%. He produced a lot which made up for this and we took it no further cos as luck would have it I was pregnant by the time the results came back! (After a year of trying).
He redid the test yesterday as we are ttc #2 and want to see how his swimmers are now.
