TTC after Nexplanon removal

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 18:55

I had my Nexplanon removed yesterday. I've been taking the pill since Monday to cover myself but to be honest, we're thinking of TTC anyway so I might just ditch the pill and go cold turkey.

Do you have to wait until your first AF after you have your implant removed until you're considered "fertile" or are you good to go as soon as it's out?

I'm starting to worry about my fertility returning as I've seen so many women say it's taken them months, even years to get pregnant again after the implant.

If anyone has any advice or experience they could share, that would be great!!

Hi. I had mine removed on 7th Nov as we are ttc. I had regular bleeding in my last year of implant so based on that I expected AF on 21/11 but only had some spotting. Even thought I might have been pregnant but nope. Now on day 40 based on Ovia & think I will soon ovulate based on OPKs so at least I know things are working now. I think everyone is different but that's my story.

I would suggest OPKs just to learn what your body is doing.

Good luck, here if you have questions.

Twistedsister7 · 03/12/2016 19:08

Forgot to say the theory isfertility returns immediately but everyone seems different.

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 19:28

Thanks for your reply :) I'm getting really anxious that I've mucked up my fertility. I was on Nexplanon for about 18 months and had regular spotting for most of the time. Do you think it's best to stop taking the pill so I can try and get my body back to normal and try and chart my ovulation? I just have this feeling that it's not going to be an easy ride for me :(

I didn't try to conceive straight away after having the implant out, we just used the withdrawal method (not for everyone I know, but as I didn't mind getting pregnant it was fine for us) then I think I waited about 4 months, had 2 or 3 periods before ttc and got pregnant straight away so it didn't mess anything up for me.

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 19:42

Oh that's good then (congrats on your pregnancy!!) About 80% of the experiences I've read, women have had so many problems TTC afterwards. I kind of have a plan in my head and it involves getting pregnant very soon but as we all know, things like this never go to plan!

I had the implant for three years, had it removed in the October and fell pregnant in December with dd.
With ds 2, I had it removed after 18 months, and fell pregnant three months later (even though we weren't really trying)

Twistedsister7 · 03/12/2016 19:57

I personally don't see the need for the pill & think better to get on track with knowing your body. But it's totally a personal decision.

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 20:05

I asked for the pill because I was initially a bit worried about going "cold turkey" as I know a few people who had really bad hormone withdrawal but to be honest, I'm fed up of pumping myself full of rubbish. I've been on contraception since I turned 17 (with a break when I was having my 1st child) and I'm 27 now. I think I just want my body to try and get back to normal and do its thing :)

Totally understandable. I didn't suffer too much from withdrawal besides some horrid headaches, but I'm prone to migraines anyway. Hope you don't get too many side effects

Watchadoinmummy · 03/12/2016 20:22

I had Nexplanon removed when we wanted baby number 2 and the doctor told me to expect a period in 4-6 weeks time. After 6 weeks, no period just a strong urge to eat gherkins Smile so it didn't mess up my fertility! It can be stressful but try to relax, honestly ttc can be lots of fun. I say go for it!

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 20:43

Thank you all for your replies, they've been really helpful :) I think I'm definitely going to stop taking my pill and hopefully get my body back to normal! I don't think the side effects of being off hormones could be any worse than the ones I was having on Nexplanon lol I'm going to try not to stress myself too much and see what happens and hopefully it won't take too long.

Fingers crossed I'll be on the forum a lot more soon Wink

Finish your current pill pack (this is important) and then wait for your withdrawal bleed. It can come quickly or it can take a longer time. There's a possibility you might fall pregnant straight away but there's also a greater possibility it can take a while 6-12 months for your cycles to normalise. You might not ovulate for a few cycles. Don't worry, this is completely normal. Good luck!!

Jfw82 · 03/12/2016 21:11

Had mine removed early October and first period was about 6 weeks later. Didn't take any other precautions after that but started actively TTC in Dec (using OPKs, tracking on Ovia etc) got BFP in April (w baby due in next two weeks!)

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 21:14

You're all making me feel a little bit more positive, thanks :) what are the best OPKs to use?

NerrSnerr · 03/12/2016 21:33

I fell pregnant within 6 weeks of getting the implant out both times. We didn't test for ovulation, just had loads of sex and that worked for us.

Jfw82 · 03/12/2016 21:35

I used the clear blue ones but only as my best friend passed on an unused box having got her BFP the same month she bought them!! I then bought very cheap big pack of pregnancy tests from Amazon as didn't want to break the bank every month (and despite every best intentions used the, multiple days each month) then used a more expensive test after got first possible +ve....

Twistedsister7 · 03/12/2016 21:50

The one step ovulation & pregnancy tests are cheap on amazon. Good for when you get the crazed poas multiple times phase. When you're actually late splash out on expensive hpt.

Lilypad15 · 03/12/2016 22:05

Annoyingly my partner works nights all week and I have my younger daughter around during the day so we only have time to have sex at the weekend at night. So 2-3 times a week. Not great :/

I might get some tests off amazon too, just to keep aside and so I can maybe see how things are going

Lilypad15 · 04/12/2016 11:35

Thank you :)

Just a quick question, I used an ovulation calendar to try and figure out where I'm at in my cycle. I was having the usual cramping and my CM has been wet and clear etc so I figured I should be ovulating around now and it said that according to my last period, my ovulation days are 3-8th December. I did have sex last night but am I right in thinking that it's not likely it would have been the right time? Sorry, I'm super new to all of this!

MouseLove · 04/12/2016 15:40

Lily, if you're taking the pill then you won't ovulate. X
It's important that you finish your current pill pack to avoid messing your cycle up with incorrect hormones.

pestov · 04/12/2016 16:14

Chill out a bit! Finish your pack of pills and have sex whenever suits you both. Give it 3 months before you start charting cycles and stuff. You're worried over nothing at the moment and have read too much online. I had my implant out last February; DD will be 1 next February!

pestov · 04/12/2016 16:16

Also, your fertility returns right away, but they like you to have had at least 1 natural period so they can date you before 12w scan

TinklingTheIvories · 04/12/2016 16:58

I had implants for 6 years. Came out in June. Used condoms for a bit whilst my af settled down (also were travelling so didn't want to catch anything nasty whilst abroad and risk the baby). Had 2 cycles of conceiving before my bfp. It happened on the cycle I was most relaxed about it happening and chilled out! Just enjoy trying and don't worry about it for a few months! Smile

Lilypad15 · 04/12/2016 22:39

Sorry, I realise my last post made it sound like I was trying like, yesterday lol

I just meant in general, if you have sex around ovulation time is it better to do it before? Because I know you can figure out when you ovulate but (for in the future!) should I be aiming for sex a few days before rather than the day of? I'm still taking my pills at the moment anyway
