Hiya, i'm new to this section of the discussion board. I'm trying for a baby and have discussed with doctor the possibility of going on Clomid. (I've done a lot of research on the pros and cons of this).
I just want to know if anyone else has gotten pregnant with it, how much they used and when you took it e.g. 1-5,2-6,etc and if they were successful/ or not. please let me know if you had 1/2/3. Not wanting to have more than one. I'm lucky cause my doctor is really supportive and open to plausible suggestions. Wanna go in armed and informed!!!!!

Help

goldfinger13 · 15/02/2007 13:27

ellabell can you remember how much you took- i've been hearing so much about the different quantities that people can go on. Obviously it's an individual thing!! just interested (only if you don't mind

No probs - they started me on 2 tabs then incresed it to 2.5 and that was the month I fell both times, I know everyone is diffrent but I had no mood swings or sickness at all. Just waiting to be referred to hospital again!

Hi

Was doc favourable about you going on clomid?
Do you have irregular periods?.

It should not be given to you unless there is proof you are not ovulating regularly or at all.

It is usually given to women who present with ovulatory problems.

Clomid is powerful stuff and you should be monitored whilst on it otherwise you will have no idea whether its working or not. It should be therefore given ideally under the supervision of a gynae rather than a GP (who will not be able to monitor you properly).

goldfinger13 · 15/02/2007 17:30

Thanks for the advice. I have very irregular periods which used to be a godsend but now seems to be turning into a problem. I'm not too sure of the course of action my GP will take. It is very early days but I like to know what their talking about before i get in there. I hate not knowing what they're on about. I'm trying to be proactive!!!! might end up being neurotic by the end of all this!!!!

Irregular periods are often caused by hormonal imbalances; be it those of the thyroid or due to a condition called polcystic ovaries or its related syndrome called PCOS.

The GP may or may not decide to do some simple investigative tests on both of you (i.e a blood test for you and a semen analysis for him).

A word of advice - if you have a blood test done ensure that both your LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) are compared against one another. Ideally these two levels should be the same but if your level of LH is higher than that of FSH this is one possible indicator of polycystic ovaries.

I would ask your GP to refer you to a gynae at a subfertility unit as a matter of course.
The cause of your irregular periods needs to be determined properly.

hello all
im new to this chat room and to clomid im half way through my first treatment. Ive been tring for a family for 2yrs it turned out that I had blocked tubes and now they are to damaged to do their job, so there is a big chance for me that the tablets and injections will not work. When your so desprite to start a family you'll try anything. It is comforting for me to read everyones comments and to see im not alone, I dont really talk about the problems I have had there are people worse off than me and I feel guilty for moaning. I have a very high risk of eptopic pg with tubes that dont work but also read that clomid can also highten your risk. Have I done the right thing every twinge I get I panic!!!!

Looking for to chatting with you all.

hi everyone,
this is sooo new to me,got my day21 result, less than two. , my periods are soo iregular soo it seemed pointless takin this blood after my last period, my gp said i just have to wait until my next period. i only had three last year!!! then she said we should discuss takin clomid and its side effects. gotta stay positive is anyone else in my shoes??

Tigresswoods · 27/05/2009 22:18

Hi there, not preggers as a result of Clomid but am on my 3rd round of it. (Don't worry Attila have seen a Dr, have had blood test etc etc...)

I just wanted to say that I have had NO side effects whatsoever and that not everyone will do.

Bring on the next fertile time!

Good luck!!!

Acqua · 28/05/2009 01:50

I took about 7 cycles to get pregnant with first child (3 tablets days 2-5) and another 6 cycles to get pregnant with 2nd (2 tablets days 2-5). Took ages for me but it seems to work. Side effects weren't great for me. I had wind which was well a bit wet sometimes - gross I know - it's rare but if it happens to you don't panic! Good luck trying for a baby. It can take ages so try not to let it rule your life. Try to enjoy yourself with your partner, because it all changes once you get a baby LOL!

Dory82 · 31/05/2009 10:58

To hope28

oh god yer its so scary your not alone the whole thing of needing treatment to get pregnant is scary the unknown, also all the side affects that you can get enough to put you off. Clomid really makes me have bad mood swings and feeling really tied alot of the time. im on one tablet for 2-6 day of my cycle now on first one

good luck with your treatment this is a good place to get it off your chest

piper84 · 31/05/2009 17:49

Hi goldfinger13
I took Clomid , 1 tablet, days 3-7 and am currently 18 weeks pregnant with twins. Best of luck, really hope it works for you but as Attilla pointed out Clomid is powerful stuff and GP's dont tend to offer proper monitering

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/01/2010 09:27

Hi hope28

Your useless GP should be referring you to a gynae for further evaluation rather than telling you to wait for your next period!.

If periods are irregular in nature a condition called PCOS (polcystic ovarian syndrome) is likely to be a possible underlying cause. Another possible one is thyroid imbalance.

I would return to your GP and ask to be referred onto the hospital. Such problems as well are often outside a GPs remit of understanding and or help anyway.

Be firm and do not be fobbed off!!!.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/01/2010 09:30

NKfff

What tests have actually been done to date on both of you?. When were these carried out as well, any test result over six months should be discounted. The chances are something has been missed along the way (some tests are often missed out).

Seems like your doc has no idea or clue whatsoever and to give you clomid without a diagnosis or monitoring is not good practice at all.

Your GP should be referring you to the subfertility unit at hospital now rather than faff about any longer. You have been ttc for 2 years; many gynaes like to see women over the age of 35 if they have been ttc for six months without success.

Do not be fobbed off, return to the GP and insist on a proper referral to a specialist.
You could end up going around in circles otherwise.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.

hi ya my hubby has had sperm tests which were 83% which they said was really good,he is 32,i was refered by my gp to northampton fertility clinic, ive had a number of tests, lap and dye to check there was nothing blockin etc,a number of blood tests, swobs, and follicle test on 12th day,all of these came back good,he was baffled why nothing has happened,i have already got a son he is 14yrs,i havent had any problems before,my cycle is every 28 days dead on,and my ovalation is good, have got to see fertility doctor in feb and have got 3months supply of clomid.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/01/2010 11:33

Hi nkffff

If there is definitive proof that ovulation is happening regularly then clomid could have the reverse effect on this. I would be seriously questionning them as to why you are being given clomid in the first place. Its primary and only job is to make the ovaries work harder.

Blood tests are not usually done on day 12; these are usually done on day 3 and 21 of a cycle. What hormone levels were measured?.

I will put up a list of tests that are often missed out; I do not personally feel that you have both been adequately investigated (particularly with regards to any male factor problems). Also semen analysis testing needs more than one analysis.
