Terrified I might be pregnant...

I'm terrified right now.
I'm on the pill, but I'll admit, I'm terrible at taking it, and last month I had two pill breaks (periods). My period roughly started on Halloween, however I wasn't totally paying attention to the exact date when it started or ended exactly, I just know it was that week.

I started taking the pill again the next week (roughly Tuesday-Thursday). I can't remember the exact date as I was finishing off a pack and starting the next immediately.

I had sex with my boyfriend of almost 2 years on Saturday 12th afternoon (4pm) with a condom, and for the first time in our relationship it split. We went down to Boots and I'd taken the Morning After Pill (Levonelle) within the hour.

It's been haunting me ever since, I'm terrified that because of the dates I could be pregnant. I'm so stupid that I didn't take my pills correctly last month. I've been taking them correctly this month, however I think I started them a day or two late.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I don't think you're irresponsible, before TTC I was on the pill and I forgot one or two from time to time. I'm just saying, if you worry about it so badly when you miss one, you may want to think of a more permanent solution Wink

I don't think you're irresponsible either, life is busy, i used to forget often! Seriously though, think about a longer term solution.

I rang 111 for advice, and they suggested to take it. Currently waiting in a pharmacy for the MAP, after three attempts of finding one in stock 😑

Hi user

Familiarise yourself with fertile dates etc. It's so much harder to get pregnant than you think. The pill causes a withdrawal bleed, not a period. The week between packs is still protected. Taking your pill again after a period stops you from ovulating. Missing it by a day is more than likely fine.

I do agree though that something not dependant on user reliability is probably better for you. IE implant or injection. Let's get rid of this anxiety once and for all x

I took the pill last night, roughly 22 hours after it happened. I still feel anxious, I can't really do much about that.

I'm a little frustrated with myself because I wasn't too concerned and decided not to get the MAP on my lunch yesterday, until I realised that I had started the pack slightly late, not because I had forgotten, I just wanted to be more organised with it, so I thought Mondays would be easier to remember. I didn't realise how much impact it could have 😔

I'm definitely going to consider the implant from now on. I'm assuming I'll have to finish the pack first though and hope AF comes

Would it be too late to have the emergency IUD?

And then keep it in afterwards?

Can you not just abstain for 2 weeks take a test and if positive you know or if negative then get the coil or something... in the nicest way OP your posts are silly if you were that worried the first time you would have been more careful with your pills and condoms... you either need to learn to be more careful or get a contraceptive method that doesnt break... i would suggest the latter

confusedat23 · 10/01/2017 12:48

Also the IUD is effective for 5 days after unprotected sex so it would be a very good option

user1479497126 · 10/01/2017 13:03

Because I don't want to take the risk, no matter how minimal it is. When you have anxiety, anything that is a "minimal risk" feels like it's a sure thing going to happen, no matter how much you try to reassure yourself.

We're both careful, since last time, this was the only time I had forgotten a pill. It was simply poor timing. We never ever have unprotected sex, we always use a condom. It was simply bad luck, we weren't irresponsible, and I'm trying to rectify the situation.

I suffer from both Anxiety and Depression OP so I understand where you are coming from. But really it would make things easier for yourself if you used a foolproof method like the implant or Marina. The idea of abstaining for 2 weeks would indeed remove any risk of a possible further accident from happening. whilst also making it possible for you to get another form of contraception in place, as I believe doctors will not do this is there is a chance of you being pregnant.

user1479497126 · 10/01/2017 13:39

If the doctors thought there was a chance of being pregnant 36 hours after the deed and won't put one in on that basis, then why would a emergency IUD be available?

I'm not looking at this as a short term thing, I don't think I made that clear. I would have kept it in as regular contraception afterwards.

IUD's can be put in up to 5 days after unprotected Sex... However that would mean that you would need to get an appointment for the doctors/sexual health clinic and then be given an appointment to get an IUD fitted all within the 3 days remaining. If you do manage to do that (which I would imagine is near on impossible considering you are almost 2 days in already with neither appointments booked) then you would be very lucky. Something to understand though is an IUD isn't like just walking into somewhere to get a pill it is quite a considerable decision to make and is not the nicest process to go through.

user1479497126 · 10/01/2017 21:24

So I went to the local GUM clinic straight after work, and walk-ins were available. Had to wait around quite a while, talk to multiple doctors and wait for appointments to finish, but I was allowed and had an IUD fitted tonight.

Fantastic news for you OP i'm really glad you got it sorted out Smile

Bubblegum89 · 10/01/2017 21:54

I was awful with my pill so I ended up switching to the implant. It was bloody awful in terms of side effects but it was a lot less stressful not having to remember to take a pill every day. You'll feel much better with your IUD :)
