About to come off pill. OH wants to try without trying.

Hi all i am new here. Me and my OH have decided that i will come off pill next week. Been together over a decade (and on pill) OH is saying 'if it happens, it happens' i do like that he doesnt want to get stressed about it all. Although having been reading discussions on here, and being so darn excited, kind of want to go the whole hog charting AF and ovulation etc (sorry havent learnt all the acronyms yet!!) did others have the same?

I was on cerazette the mini pill, once we decided to go for it I swapped my usual pill for folic acid, although we still used condoms for a couple of months to let my cycles settle down (hadn't had a period in 6+ years whilst taking it). It took a while for my cycle to settle but I didn't have any adverse symptoms for stopping the pill mid pack.

Wow thats amazing miss clarke thanks for sharing. I will be over the moon if this time next year i am pregnant. Congrats for you and your bump . We had the same conversation you know. I said i had to see the nurse for check up and he just said 'why bother, just come off it'? I was blown away as although i wanted him to want kids i had never really pushed to agree to (not fair to imo).

Its good to know others stopped mid pack. Its so tempting with just 7 left but i think i will wait. At the mo my head is in the clouds so im trying to do what others said and not stress about it. I will admit though i brought ovulation and pregnancy tests today....just to be ready!

I have only been on this forum for a couple of days but already so pleased to have people to talk to -so hard not being able to tell anyone whats going on. Especially at work!!

It took me 14 months after coming off pill which was very hard.
However after that (dc2 and dc3)no problem so be warned!

I stopped mid pack and had no symptoms or problems. You really don't need to see a nurse or doctor, your body will just fall back into cycle.

Oh sorry, i meant check up for a repeat prescription. I have to go once a year to check blood pressure etc and get a bulk batch of pill. Thats when OH said dont bother this time.

Whatever the level of trying, it's important to start taking follic acid if you are not already x

Hi sk1pper. Yes i have been taking folic for about 6 months now as well as vitamin d and calcium. Mainly as my friends hair thinned alot when she fell pregnant. Joys of it all i guess!!

I used Cerezette/Cerelle before (and after) ttc for DD. It took about 2-3 months for my periods to return normally, and reading online, that's pretty common. About 10 days after I stopped taking it, I had pregnancy like symptoms - tender breasts etc., but it turns out that's not unusual on stopping. After buying very expensive pregnancy tests from Tesco, I eventually bought a batch set of very cheap ones online - being able to test whenever I wondered if I was pregnant was helpful for me. It took 16 months to conceive in the end; I did start monitoring when I ovulated, but didn't have any fertility tests. Hope it goes well for you!

Thanks! I have brought some cheapy ones from wilko plus ov test. I tried one of each last night for practice unsuprisingly i am neither pregnant nor ovulating!

Honestly I would avoid charting ect to start with it took me 2 years to fall with my first pregnancy. Charting and timed sex is a total utter passion killer.

Most heathly couple fall pregnant within a year. The best thing to do is have lots of sex ( every 2/3 days through your cycle). Trust me sedition not charts is a lot more fun. Charting is brilliant if you need cause things are taking a while but it's pretty much zero fun very quickly.

Also worth knowing that 84% of couples having sex regularly and not using contraception become pregnant within a year. Of the 16% who don't, half conceive the following year. We were grateful to be in that half; just to say that if you aren't pregnant after a year, hope is not lost!
