Hello it's me again - haven't posted for a while but need some advice. I had my lap&dye yesterday (ouch - feeling very sore). My tubes and ovaries are fine but my bowel seems to be stuck to my uterus and the consultant thinks this is due to endometriosis. I've got an appt to see him again in 3/4 weeks to discuss the options. Have only just felt well enough to get out of bed so came to do a search on the internet and feel very upset with what I've read. I know it's very common but there seem to be so many different views/opinions/treatments - I'm very confused.

For anyone who doesn't know me, I've got a dd of 2y 9m who I had no problem conceiving, and we've been trying for no. 2 for 18 months, hence the lap&dye. One of the docs I saw yesterday (before the op) said lap&dyes can sometimes 'clear the way' and make you a bit more fertile for a while, but will this still apply now they know what the problem is? I know there are a couple of threads on endo. already but would still appreciate some 'tailor-made' advice please. Thanks x

Hi Moomin, I had bad endo before my son was born, and had lots of treatments for it. I was told I wouldn't fall pregnant naturally as the endo and consequent damage was too severe. However, I got it under control and fell pregnant almost immediately after coming off the medication. Your doctor is right - it does clear the way, so to speak, so you may have more luck soon. Try not to get too down about what you read on the internet - as with anything there is varying degrees. Also, there is still a lot they don't know about endo (a GP told me I was 'cured' now that I had had a baby!!) and (as with me) its fairly unpredictable. Hang in there, and if you want to chat to me, you can send me a message. xx

Hi Ladies, as a fellow sufferer of Endometriosis I can relate fully to your experience. They also found my endometriosis whilst ttc #1. I was having a lap & dye for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome when they had to stop due to the Endometriosis. I was given Synarel Spray, for 6 months to reduce the Endometriosis and went on to have a beautiful little girl. I had bad bad period pains since I started at 11 years old, no-one would explain if I had a problem, well your average GP doesn't really know alot of Gynie issues and problems and kept giving me Ponstan tablets to ease the pain, I remember being 15 years old and doubled over in agony, my GP told me that it was "Just period pains", I thought I was dying, the standard 250mg Ponstan tablet didn't even touch it this time, so I took 2 which led to taking 3 and finally my GP took notice when I had to get a repeat prescription nearly 1 month later (used to get 3 months supply at one go). I had my daughter, and no sign of endometriosis, I have been advised that eventually it will return, it is treatable, but not curable, well not yet anyway. Good luck and you must stress that you are ttc, you should get all the help you need.

noddy5 - I had a choice with the procedure - either with or without general anaesthetic (the procedure varies depending on what you decide). I'm a real wuss so opted for the general. Felt very woozy afterwards but came home ok and went to bed. Now I just feel sore and a bit giddy. If you go for the 'awake' one, you obviously won't feel like this but I couldn't bear the idea of being awake throughout!

Hi Moomin

I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in August of 2002 - my son was born September 2003

My consultant also told me that the lap had cleared the way and my biggest chance of success would have been soon after the op as as the years go by the endo can build up again.

My tubes etc were also clear but I had adhesions over my womb and bowel.

Hope your feeling better very soon

Becca
