How do you know if it is ovarian cyst or ovulation pain? Or is this a stupid question?>

I was once told by a doc that what I thought were ovulation pains were just ovarian cysts, now I am wondering whether the crampy pains that I have now are to do with ovulation or not,,,, can anyone advise me?

Mum03, have no idea, but thought I would bump it anyway! Hope you are ok??

Surely if it were a cyst they would have monitored it ? Have you had children since it was mentioned as it would have shown on a ultrasound scan. Some ovulation pain is normal.

Thanks Lizs - I have had children since, and each time I got told - we can't properly see your right ovary..... whatever that means. So I have never found out any more.

Just at the moment I am having major cramp rather than the normal o-pain, so wondering if it is cyst or not?

mum03

I would get this checked out further by a gynaecologist.

The cramps could well be due to the ovarian cyst particularly if they last for some days.

AttilaTheMeerkat - thanks for that, I think that this time it is a cyst rather than o-pains. It has lasted a couple of days now. I am not sure whether it is worth a trip to gynae though, should I go?

mum03, if it worries you go see your gp first.
i had an ovarian cyst, and i suffered no pains. I felt 'popping type' sensations in my stomach and it was generally bloated looking. I only got it checked out as i was due to go on a 2 month holiday.
Turned out my doc wouldn't let me go, as cyst had grown to the size of a blown up balloon and had to be removed urgently. Luckily it was benign.

Most cysts aren't anything to worry about and disappear on their own but if the pain bothers you get it checked out.

I thought my ovulation pain was just 'normal', then when it got worse I was scanned and a cyst was found. Cyst removed - pain came back. Turned out it was endometriosis. So I would always say get it checked out. HTH
