Can you get pregnant straight after stopping the pill?

Or is that an old wives tale to frighten people into being extra careful and not miss a pill?
It seems to take everyone so long to readjust to normal periods.
I've not come across anyone who fell pregnant immediately or very quickly.

I was exactly the same- I tried to act like I was very relaxed about everything but was secretly googling every last sign or symptom. The one useful thing I did do was get a TTC app, I just used it to track my periods as cycle length can be funny when you first come off pill and it helps predict when you're ovulating days should be according to cycle length.

I actually did the app thing straight away purely so I could estimate my cycle length so I could be prepared. I forgot I ever had to think about these things! I've been so bloated since coming off the pill and my Digestion has definitely changed (massively sped up and now very slow) so my body is adjusting in some ways.

Kaisha - I used an app called Clue, not because we were trying but more to figure out my own cycle. After my withdrawal bleed my cycle fell into 28-35 day patterns and by the 3rd month or so I knew roughly when I was ovulating due to all my signs and symptoms. My OH got to know aswell as there were some very telling signs ;). I'd been on the pill or had the implant for about 12/13 years before stopping them. Try a few apps out, if anything it's handy to track your cycle so that if things don't work out you've got something to show the doctors - that was my plan :)

Ahh cross posted again!! Haha

Thanks that's really useful April. Silly Q alert - what ARE the signs and symptoms of ovulating?!

Hi OP - I don't have anything useful to say - only that I've come off the pill recently too, withdrawal bleed on 16th July then didn't start next packet to ttc. Just finished my first actual period after a 30 day cycle. Also have no idea what is going on!!! I didn't have any ovulation symptoms, apart from maybe some EWCM around day 19. Like you I get obsessed with new ideas quickly... But have caved in for cycle two and am temping this month. I think I will move onto OPKs after a couple of months if we don't get up-duffed. Best of luck to you!

My main symptoms were EWCM and lots of it and also a very increased libido for about a week straight. OH knew every time!

I was camping last weekend, and filling up my water bottle, I overheard two men talking in the adjacent tent. One was telling the other that his partner stopped taking the pill, and got pregnant straight away.

So it worked for them, and I learnt far more than I needed to about people I kept seeing on the campsite! Grin

Baby on the pill here Grin

7 years on it. Moved house, didn't get the tv wired up for ages and bam. A baby. So had to move house again.

My TV isn't wired up at the minute as we've moved house again recently and guess what.. a baby Grin

Yep. On the pill for 10 years, withdrawal bleed then pregnant so no more periods. I did take a while to ovulate and had no idea where I was - got through a lot of pregnancy tests! We just dtd every day or every other day until I had a period or got pregnant.

DrWhy · 20/08/2016 10:19

Yep, agreed to stop pill while DH away, one proper period. DH back about a week - pregnant!
He was quite disappointed as my sex drive returned with a vengeance and he thought he was going to get months of 'trying'!

Kaisha02 · 20/08/2016 10:22

Ah this is all so promising, thank you for your stories! We have been dtd every other night since I came off withdrawal bleed purely because my sex drive is so high. DH is loving it Grin

Yep! Came off the pill the month before our wedding. I was pregnant when we got married! The morning sickness on honeymoon was the giveaway!

Booboostwo · 20/08/2016 11:26

Two weeks after stopping the pill (ten years on it).

Kaisha02 · 21/08/2016 18:19

Well I think I'm ovulating - I'm not testing for it yet as only into first cycle so taking a somewhat relaxed approach despite lots of dtd! Yesterday had cramping on one side for most of the day, today milky discharge. Does that sound like ovulation to you?

Yes I missed mine 1 ONE day and fell pregnant ..

KittyWindbag · 22/08/2016 04:53

You can but it hasn't happened that way for me. Been off for five months and still trying. My cycle has taken a while to settle.

Everyone really is different, one of my friends conceived like 2 weeks after coming off the pill.

Good luck OP
