Light bleeding

Hi all,

I have been off contraceptive pill for nearly 8 months and been told by GP I am not ovualting.
Recently I have had 2 light AFs, one at 32 days which lasted around 4 days and then other very light AF 16 days later which only last one day.
I am very confused as am generally used to 'heavy' AFs. Even more confused by the fact that the very light bleed was accompanied by strong cramping.
Anyone experienced anything like this? Is it worth getting check out by GP? Keep hoping that I am getting back to a 'normal'cycle, but seems to be set back after set back!!!

Hi - can't offer much info or advice but I know that I was on the pill for most of my adult life - 17 years !! - with no breaks - I went on it because my teenage periods were so awful - so was dreading coming off it to start TTC - however was very surprised to find that actually my periods were much lighter and shorter than ever before on or off the pill (all those years ago!) I was lucky and mine came quite quickly back to a pretty regular cycle.

My GP did say it can take some women up to a year after coming of the pilll to get back into a regular cycle.

When did they tell you that you weren't ovulating? was that quite soon after stopping the pill or more recently?

Your cycle would be seen as an irregular one as there is more than 4 days in variation from month to month.

If you are not ovulating this is often due to hormonal imbalances.

The pill leaves your system very quickly after taking it. There is no evidence to suggest that the pill is responsible for failure to ovulate. What its more likely done is mask symptoms of any underlying problem.

I would return to your GP and ask that you are referred to a gynae for further evaluation. That may seem a bit drastic but heavy bleeding and cramping have causes and the causes for this should be determined. If your GP has said you are not ovulating then you should be referred on anyway. At the very least it should be properly determined why you are not ovulating.

HI,

Thanks for all the advice. One day of light AF has now turned into a very heavy bleed with cramps which are taking my breath away! Will make an appointment today with GP.

I have an appointment with a reflexologist who specialises in getting your body to ovulate again tonight - hopefully this will relax me and possible give the ovaries the kick that they need!!!

I also have an ultrasound to check for PCOS in Feb and have been referred to gynae, but unlikely to get an appointment until May.
