Hi
We've been ttc for a year now and have been to our go, who has started the ball rolling for fertility tests. When I made the appointment I felt I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now after been to the fertility clinic to drop hubby's sample off, I feel overwhelmed and the light is fading again. I'm worried that the test results are going to show a problem. We've talked about adoption if worst comes to worse, but I'm now worried that my family wouldn't accept an adopted child through comments that have been made about it. Just wanted to talk to others whom are in the same situation or have been through it.

Hi,

I just wonder if I could join in as we have just started 1 year fertility checks.

I am pretty sure I'm ovulating - positive OPKs & BBT shows a definite change it temps at the same time as OPKs

Now I'm thinking the worst - must be the sperm or maybe my uterus is inhospitable Sad

Wish we could just skip all the waiting. Just have all the tests in one day, then have an answer & deal with it.

The worst part in all this is waiting, stressing & reading Dr. Google Sad

bluebird3 · 01/09/2016 09:38

Welcome busta. The waiting is pants. After waiting all year for a bfp, then waiting for initial tests, then waiting for referrals. I'm trying to get my head around the fact that it could be a year or more of fertility investigations before treatment starts. That way if it's sooner I'll be happy.

tmi I don't know what the brown spotting means. I know it's old blood but not sure how much is too much or if it effects things. If I'm not ovulating then maybe it's just part of the oestrogen withdrawal bleed? Some months I have much more than others which might fit with the theory that I occasionally ovulate but not regularly.

TMI26 · 07/09/2016 23:38

2weeks in and still nothing from the hospital on my referral!!

peaches88 · 08/09/2016 07:53

TMI26 I hope the wait for your letter is not very long. We're still at the first stage as hubby went to give second sample on Monday and couldn't cos public transport broke down, and he didn't get to the clinic on time. Will try again on Friday, fingers crossed it will happen this time.

Welcome busta, don't go looking online at what it could be. As my mum said to me until you get your results there is nothing wrong, therefore you should not worry.

It's reassuring to know that there are other couples in the same boat, even if there are different reasons for it.

So rang the clinic up - there is an 18 week wait for an initial appointment with gynaecology .... 3 down 15 to go.......

They have said I should expect a date in December so fingers x'd it goes well!

miraflores81 · 21/09/2016 18:56

Hi guys, really need some help here.
We have been trying for a baby for nearly a year, I'm 35 OH is 32. Our day 21 and sperm analysis checked out ok, instead of making me feel better I feel crushed! Now I know the problem probably lies with me and not him. We are considering having further tests done privately because I don't have time on my side.

I'm scared cos whether they do or don't find a problem the route to motherhood that I took for granted would happen seems like its all but been snatched away from me. I never thought we would be discussing ivf and adoption, it was never supposed to be that way. Anyone else feel like they are grieving something they've lost?
Am I overreacting/having a meltdown?!
Help!

TMI26 · 21/09/2016 22:41

Hi mira, I think most people think that, the inevitable 'what if' that's lurking in the back of our minds but I'm sure it will not come to that, there are so many ways fertility can be impacted and if identified there is no reason you cannot go on to have healthy babies, if I was in your situation I too would probably be considering going private, it's an investment in your future worth making, we are currently at the appointment stage, another 1.5 weeks to wait depending on how it goes we will decide whether to go private or not...

miraflores81 · 22/09/2016 10:18

Thanks tmi I guess I've found that when you're 34 and trying, everyone's all just relax, keep trying, but as soon as you're 35 and you've hit a year it turns on a dime to talking about infertility! It just seems that stark, even though I know its not. And I've found that swift change in attitude really really difficult.

That said, I like the way you've put it "an investment in your future worth making" it sounds much more positive!
I hope your appt goes well, and thanks for replyingSmile

buddub · 23/09/2016 13:25

@miarflores81 don't despair too much. If things are looking good in your progesterone test it might just be 'unexplained' and they can sometimes give you things to help. We had the tests done on NHS and then went privately to see someone for peace of mind (and speed!)- we had the same where everything looked normal and I was put on something called clomid and got pregnant the first cycle (even though i ovulated normally they prescribe clomid sometimes to improve the quality of the eggs or something). I sadly lost the baby unrelated to the clomid and am TTC again.

They can also check to see if your 'pipes' are blocked using a procedure called hsg which I understand is uncomfortable but simple and sometimes even if people haven't had any blockages they've gone on to get pregnant because of that.

Wishing you lots of luck :)

miraflores81 · 23/09/2016 17:32

Hi buddub yes that's what I think we're going to do, we also had initial tests on nhs but thinking of getting fertility tests privately because time is a factor and nhs wont be quick enough.
I didn't know they put you on clomid even if everything checked out fine. Did they do that test for egg reserve before they put you on clomid? I think its called amh?
Sorry to hear about your m/c I've heard people say sometimes its because your body is practicing to be pregnant, hope your next cycle is successful.Smile
I want to get tested for everything! I hope we find a decent clinic not too far away. How did you choose your clinic?

wantingabud · 26/09/2016 12:06

@miraflores81 yes interestingly they do sometimes put you on clomid regardless even if you're ovulating fine and they're not 100% sure why it works in that case but it does. One of the tests the private doctor did (not sure of name) was to check good egg supply which he says he was pleased with. And yes the m/c is hard but as my mother tells me when she's trying to get me to look on the bright side (!) is that at least it shows I can get pregnant which is one step closer. I went to a doctor who my friend had used and helped her get pregnant and is her obgyn. If you're in London try the website doctify which is great. Good luck :)

MouseLove · 26/09/2016 13:50

Hey peaches, did you get any answers? X

TMI26 · 28/09/2016 12:43

Anyone got any updates on their test results?

peaches88 · 03/10/2016 18:28

We finally got our results last Friday, not good, hubby had no sperm detected in his sample both times. Being referred to the fertility clinic now, just the long wait for that letter to arrive :(
Anyone got any goods news?

TMI26 · 03/10/2016 21:58

That's sad to hear sorry peaches :(

We went for our fertility appointment today, absolutely gutted just more tests and more waiting - they also could not find my husbands results which sucked. This is so long

TMI26 · 03/10/2016 21:59

Peaches, do you know what your options are?

peaches88 · 04/10/2016 07:39

Omg they couldn't find results, that's bad and heartbreaking. Sorry to hear that you have to have more tests and not getting answers. Hopefully there will be some answers from your next lot of tests.

The dr we saw didn't know much about the process or information as it wasn't really his area. All we know is what my hubby read online about what could be causes his problem and the procedures that can be done.

Hi everyone how are you doing?
Have been for my first acupuncture today, was a bit uncomfortable Confused
am thinking about taking epo next cycle and maybe other things depending on my blood results next month at the fertility clinic.
Am trying to have lazy day today except whole house is a mess and needs cleaning especially as MIL is visiting this weekend!
Good luck all of you not sure where you all are in cycles as am on my phone and can't scroll up.
I am 6dpo i suffer with hormones quite a bit can suffer with night sweats, nausea, diarrhoea etc even when not trying so it's time I stop googling early pg symptoms as I get them anyway!

peaches88 · 26/10/2016 08:01

Hi all, just seeing if anyone has any updates.
I had my referral to see the gynaecologist, however it was sent back to the drs as they hadn't done a test on my blood. So back to square one of waiting for the next referral.

OP posts:
miraflores81 · 26/10/2016 13:42

Hi everyone,
Just thought I would update, we have had our 2nd visit to fertility clinic and had my day 5 bloods taken and internal ultrasound, ultrasound looked ok, she mentioned something about 14 follicles but not sure whether that was 1 ovary or both! Took OH into the room with me but he's not sure either! As we live 90 mins drive from the clinic and it's difficult to get time off work we have to wait til 20th Nov for our consultation to discuss results. OH had sperm analysis too.
Has anyone looked at what their ccg provides? If unexplainable infertility I have to wait til I'm 36 to get a funded cycle on NHS...and I think I just get 1 cycleConfused

peaches88 · 26/10/2016 20:52

Miraflores81 it's a pain when you have to travel far to get help. Can I ask how long you has to wait for your first appointment at the fertility clinic from be referred?

OP posts:
miraflores81 · 26/10/2016 21:49

Hi peaches I don't think I made it clear we went to fertility clinic privately for tests only. But looking at NHS for treatment which is why I was looking at ccg guidelines.
Actually went to gp today to get my cervix looked at and asked to be referred to NHS fertility clinic and gp refused, said she will refer me to gynae for my cervical ectropion and discuss fertility later. Her tone made us feel like she would not be moved.
But oh and I feel that at 35 and 13 cycles I can't really afford to wait. I think we will have to see another gp and ask for referral. I've learnt on mn and other places that you have to drive everything yourself and ask for what you want as regards fertility testing and treatment.
But enough about me, how are you finding things?

peaches88 · 30/12/2016 20:30

Miraflores81 I hope that you have made progress with your referral.

After a cock up by our dr's, we have finally got our first appointment booked for February. Hopefully once we have had the first appointment things will be explained properly and we'll know what to expect.

OP posts:
miraflores81 · 04/01/2017 12:14

Hi peaches I've been taking a little break from mn. We have got our referral thanks, on the 13th of this month! My local hospital isn't that great so not holding out much hope for how helpful they'll be but according to ccg I will be eligible for 1 free cycle when I turn 36. Think I will get a hsg privately is they don't offer one. Good luck for ur referral!
