PG 9 months after mc, now what do I do?

I've just had a positive PG test, the first since I mc'ed at 12 weeks last April (I have a DD rising 5). As I am 38 yrs old as of this month, I think this puts me into a higher-risk group anyway. Am I entitled to an early scan or check-up because of these 2 factors?
Also... the mc came shortly after a skiing trip and I wondered if altitude had been a factor - and we're booked onto another trip in a month's time. I'm now wondering if I should cancel. Any suggestions from mumsnetters?

First of all, congratulations!!

I bet you are excited and scared all at once!

I had a mc back in Feb at 9 weeks, and then conceived again before Christmas. I went skiing over Christmas, and I don't know about the altitude, but unfortunately this one also ended in mc at about 6 weeks. I have read somewhere that air travel very early in pg can be bad, but I've seen no proof of this. I think you can probably worry about everything after you've had a mc and really there is nothing we can do!

I think that you need to speak to your doctor as soon as possible and see if they will send you for a reassurance scan - they are unlikely to do anything before about 6 weeks, as it is unlikely to see the heart beat before then. Some ladies on here have found their doctors very understanding, while others have had to think about saying they've had some bleeding in order to get referred to the EPU. I have to say that I wouldn't want to tempt fate like that, but if my doctor won't give me an early scan when/if I get pg again, I think I'll see about paying for one privately.

Anyway, try and relax and not to worry, although I know how difficult that is!

There are lots of understanding ladies on the TTC after mc thread, many of whom have had more than 1 mc, so you'll find lots of support there. I think there is a pg after mc thread too, over on the pg treads, which you may find helpful - I've not actually been over there yet!

HTH - Take care of yourself

Congratulations! I am not sure about the whole altitude thing but if i was in your position then i think i would cancel the ski trip mainly from the point of view that you say you have already had 1 mc after a ski trip and that you are 38. The mc may well have happened regardless of the ski trip but, without meaning to sound harsh, you have the rest of your life to go ski-ing but not forever to conceive. Who knows...there might be no link between flying, altitude, mc etc but why take the risk?

Just wanted to add, that I didn't actually ski over Christmas - I just went to a ski resort with my family and looked after DD, while the rest of the family skied. Didn't want to take any unnecessary risks this time around.

Thank you fettle and marshmellow! I'll book an appt with my GP next week and try to see what they can do on the reassurance front - I think they'll advise me to wait until 6-7 weeks before having a scan, but it would be nice to be referred to the EPU, given my age and history. The altitude thing has bothered me, because whenever I went up to a higher slope in the cable-car I felt very sick on arrival. I didn't ski either, I just helped DD with her sledging. But then yes, nobody can tell with mc's, it's just a very sad fact that they so often have no traceable reason.
