Ovulating on day 6/7 of my cycle?

At least according to the ovulation sticks. My cycle is 23 days long, so maybe it makes sense. Anybody in the same position? Not sure how much I should trust the sticks really. I did feel as if I was ovulating though.

eastend, the sticks are a bit tricky, just make sure your line is as dark or darker than the control line, but if it's light then you are not ovulating. A 23 day cycle is very short and you may have trouble getting pg. How long is your period if your ov on 6 or 7. My cycle is 25 days which is on the low end and I ov on day 11-12, so yours should be around 9-10. Maybe your doctor could give you something to lengthen your cycles. Hope this helps.

My periods last 4/5 days. I don't think a 23 day cycle is particularly short, I think it is considered average no? I thought that I would have more chances of getting pregnant as my 2 ovulation days come round more quickly, isn't that the case? The line was as dark the control line, tbh I am not sure I did it right this time. Will try again next month.

I must have ovulated around day 6,7, 8,9 about 9 months ago because I am presently sitting here willing myself (and begging every MNer across the land) to make me go into labour.

baby concieve day 8 of cycle.

Flossam · 12/01/2007 10:20

I Ov'd one cycle at about day 8 I think. Was a 26 day cycle. Really though I had concieved though and hadn't. I think I usually ov'd at about day 10, but I never used sticks so can't be sure.

Can the ovulation date then vary from period to period then? I guess it can....oh dear, I feel so ignorant. With my ds I just had sex and got pregnant, and now we want to plan it so carefully.....boring, borin.

Eastend, with my other children I ovulated as per the textbook says. Between days 12-16, we concieved all 3 DS's during that time.

This one, concieveed on day 8, obviously really wanted to be born

(well, actually ATM he doesn't want to be born because I'm now 4 days late....grrrrrr)

The best thing to do with ovulation is to count backwards from the first day of your period. In general if you count back 14 days from next period you should get a good idea of when ovulation is and its usually earlier than you expect. I have a 26 day cycle and ovulate on day 12 so although my cycle is a little short, I have no luteal phase defect- my luteal phase is still 14 days long. I suspect you have a similar sort of situation, although your cycle is a little short (although not abnormally so) you dont seem to have a luteal phase defect if you are ovulating on day 6/7. Sometimes a short luteal phase can make it difficult for implantation to occur. Sometimes a few days after my period finishes, i see signs of ovulation and this is perfectly normal. Don't forget, if the average period is 7 days long and the average cycle is 28 days long, by time AF has stopped, you are halfway to ovulation! HTH, I read on here the other day that counting backwards from 1st day of next expected AF is a big pointer and I will be doing that this month. xxxxxxx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/01/2007 17:31

Ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

It is therefore not correct to assume that ovulation will occur fourteen days after your last period has ended.

ammylovesbabies · 13/01/2007 17:33

absolutely Atilla- ovulation is no science. Whatever is right for YOU is the rule. Not averages or usuals. x

very interesting, thank you.

Eastend - I was reading Zita West's book and she had a case study on a woman who had been missing her fertile phase every cycle because she OVd so soon after her AF that she mistook EWCM as the dregs of her AF. Good luck to you and hope you get lucky really soon. Think of it this way, with a short (but perfectly proportioned!) cycle, you have many more chances in a year of getting pregnant than those with long cycles, your body is just efficient!

odbod · 15/01/2007 16:33

what is EWCM? can't get the hang of all the acronyms - doesn't help my dyslexia when I try and read a thread!

eastend · 15/01/2007 19:35

I have no idea what that it is either....

Sorry, its Egg White Cervical Mucus, the most fertile kind.

odbod · 16/01/2007 12:31

Thanks! ttc at mo so good to know what to look out for

MrsMcJnr · 17/01/2007 20:54

Odbod - some people don't get much EWCM, sometimes you blink and miss it so try and concentrate on the wet sensation, if you feel wet/watery/slimy go for it!
